    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I got the 82 running but it has drivetrain/ tranny problems so I focused on the 83. I've put 6k mile on the 83 sinced last August. I'm not certain the Harley guys even see me , unless I'm coming straight at them.:onthego:

However, you should buy those parts > Before they're no longer available!
 
I would like to have the 82 on the road. I plan on opening up the case and see whats going on. Hoping it's do able.

Can you believe I stripped my '82 1100G down and did a Track Day with it?
Worked great, but was not at the performance level of modern sport bikes.
It was my 1st track day too, so I had quite an up and down battle between confidence and fear. :cool::eek::cool::eek::cocksure::distrust::indecisiveness::excitement::cool:

It sounds like fun to to take it on the track. I'd be interested in knowing any mods you may have done to improve it's handling or engine performance. Care to share your experience with me. The bike is a joy on long trips. Comfortable and I can pass at will :pirate:!!! I understand the confidence/fear battle....

I've made no performance mods Charlie, and for the track day I just did the most ideal state of tune: carbs synced, clean plugs and air filter, cables, fork oil, brake pads, air pressure, new tires. All factory spec.
I just took off the glass headlight, mirrors and turn signals, and did the small safety things required by the track day group.
I also cleaned off every dip of oil and dirt on the engine and bike, just so they knew I took serious care of it. The tech inspectors certified me with just a quick look.

Hey Charlie...Hows your 82 going? I was looking at your electrical setup (For reference as it looks so neat!) you don't happen to have any spare parts from the signal generators by any chance?

I've got a few things to do to my 1100g because I'm going on a trip to Ontario Canada this August. Did a bit of shuffling abound in the garage and got the bike on the new lift.



Brake lines, change in fork oil and a little grease in the steering stem bearings is what I had in mind for now, but.....



I found a few cracks in my 3&4 boots. Maybe this is why those pipes have a bit of a golden hue at times. Drives me crazy chasing these leaks. I should have changed them when I first got this bike going, as I had new ones on the other 1100......" They were so soft and pliable...." Better now than in Nebraska!



Just for the heck of it, here is a somewhat recent picture.
 
Geez, that's starting to look like a bike shop :D awesome! Looks like some great maintenance you're doing that's for sure. Ummm...Ottawa in August?? oh well, you're used to the heat.

It wasn't my choice. The ladies ruled on this one. You need one of these lifts! Get Trevor to get you one.....:devilish:
 
Looks like it's already bolted on.
I'm sure that'll be more comfy than riding a chair in a hurricane.
 


This is what it actually looks like today after a 200 mile plus test ride. These are the items I've complete to date preparing for my trip:

New 90 w oil in rear and secondary
New fork oil.
New brake lines and fluid.
Adjusted to valves.
Charging system: 14.10 volts @ 1100 rpm, 14.39 @2500 rpm
New rear tire, front good for another 12k miles.....
New intake boots and O-rings
Sync carbs
New Tachometer cable
Install top case
Install Shoei FM-2 faring, paint gloss black, "super glue" plexi-glass and polish
Greased triple tee bearings.

Faring review: I've never ridden with a faring for more than 20 miles or so, so this is all new. I feel like there is more weight on my wrists and hands because I have no wind providing "Lift" off the bars. I have a concern that I may tend to slouch giving my back some problems without that "lift" I mentioned. If it becomes a problem I may toss the faring along the road. I have a lot more confidence to ride at higher speeds. I find myself in a turn going about 20-25 miles an hour faster than I think I'm going. Need to watch that. The air flows right over my head and I can see this might be really good if I encounter rain. There still seems to be a bit of air flow between me and the faring to offer cooling on our hot days.

Any suggestions of further maintenance......?

Here's a suggestion from last year's trip to John Day. Add roadside assistance and towing to your insurance, for me it was $15.00 a year. And get a burner cell phone on a different network than your primary one. The only phones that worked in JD were Verizon. And take a spare clutch cable. And if you're BigD_83, a spare throttle tube, his crumbled in the parking lot of the motel.
 
Sounds like all your maintenance is done Charlie. Are you taking some spare parts? special tools? And if I find out you've tossed that FM2 on the road :eek: I love mine for the G and trips. If you get sick of it put it in the mail for me and I'll give you gas money to get you thru part of your trip.
