Anyone Tried Dupli-Color Spray Paint?

I need to paint my wife's bike (80 Honda CM400T) some other color than the groovy disco green (with light green and yellow stripes!) that came from the factory. Otherwise, she won't go riding with me anymore.

Anyway, here in the US auto parts stores sell small spray cans of paint in various factory colors. We've found a few colors that she likes, and we shouldn't need that many cans, since we'll only need to paint one very small gas tank and two side covers.

Has anyone used Dupli-Color spray paint? How'd it go? Any hints other than the usual which can be found elswhere on this site?

Mechanically, her bike is in excellent shape and it fits her size and riding style perfectly. It just looks kinda tacky in the new millenium, and she's embarassed to take it out of the garage.

Painting done, I might hit up our friend with the polisher this winter...

I'VE used dupli color to touch up and paint my case guards. it works good.i would recommend a clearcoat over color,it helps with the shine

I used duplicolor High temp clearcoat on my crankcase after I polished it. Works well.

Seconded, use a good clearcoat.

Beware! if the tank is painted, be very careful of spilling gas on it, a non enamel clearcoat is not going to be gas-proof and will pickle up.

You can help this with one of those frilly leather tank strips that surround the gas cap. I believe JC Whitney sells them.

I used it to paint my Kaw tank. It matched up nice but I didn't seal it as it is temp and I already slopped gas on it. Not good. But not the paints fault.

I've got a cb200t that was painted years ago with autozone and walmart duplicolor cans. I didn't use any clearcoat and should have. the paint still holds great to this day and has had lots of gas spilled on her. just do your prep real good, let it cure real good, and clearcoat it to shine

Personally i really aint keen on Dupli Color, i painted my tank with it and the **** started to chip and lift from the primer within a matter of days. I been painting for 8 yrs and this is the worse crap out there. I personally wont recommend it to anyone!

This is my tank I painted with Dupli-color, it's laquer and very soft. I'd use enamel next time and read the article on here about spray painting, I'd did and jua'la. yes it looks like a mirror.

My skunk has some on it.... I haven't tried it yet but I reckonif you let it age fir a while so it completely gases out you can then hit it with one of those 2k spray bomb cans of clear that actually mix in the can and are gas resistant etc.
Read about a couple of people doing that on here...

You can buy them in EBay. Pricey but you prob only need1 can..

I painted my using a metal flake spray can , but I used 2k clear coat, spilled gas all over it, and it still looks great.

Look into ColorRite for rattle can paint,have heard good things.

Duplicolor seems to be better than most of the rattle can stuff. Done several bikes with it. If you want to spill gasoline on it, use a catalyzed clear coat over it first. Here's a couple of them:

I saw some Dupli-Color “Paint Shop Finish System” in my local NAPA store. It's a lacquer in quart cans for spray guns, only $22 each. It must be clear coated.
Not sure if it can stand up to gas spills. But the color choices are limited, mostly primary colors. IMO it's low end.

No, it needs to be clear coated for that.

I had the same experience...painted the tank with dupli color and then had chipping. But I must confess I used tremclad primer so maybe it was not compatible. Is there a dupli color primer?
