A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Whose driven on the left side of road? Any timely tips?

i see the event is in Queenstown. Heart of the tourist area. Where you strike arrows painted on the road to indicate left hand side driving. The biggest danger is other visitors. Proven by accident stats. Campervans are lethal.

    1982 1100E 530 Chain Conversion Thread

To answer your question you'd have to mock one up and check the alignment. I'll repeat that I've never seen the boss on the outside. IMO it would be poor engineering as the splined lock washer should go up against a flat face as large as possible.

    1982 1100E 530 Chain Conversion Thread

In my experience, if correctly assembled, the boss is on the inside.

    1982 1100E 530 Chain Conversion Thread

The 6mm spacer is required because neither the 530 or 520 front sprocket will have the boss/integral spacer on the inside. 6mm spaces the front out so the inner edges of front and rear align. You'd use a 6mm spacer unless you needed to move the chain line outwards. If for instance you'd fitted a...

    1982 1100E 530 Chain Conversion Thread

IMO the thread is obsolete anyway. The conversion should be to 520 chain now as that's where the development has gone in recent years.

    Performance parts for gs850g.

When you pull the head to check for damage, measure the bores. It's possible it may have 1000 pistons.

Increased engine chatter - Decreased power

Simplest answer IMO is that someone dialled in the cams- to unknown lobe centers - and the slotted sprocket(s) have moved. I'd also check that the tensioner is free to move as occasionally the lockscrew and nut on the side is used as a poor mans manual tensioner. In combination, slipped...

    650 Head

If the 650 pistons and rings are in good condition, IMO it's possible to bore the 550 cylinder block to suit. Some machining of the piston crowns may be required to obtain clearance to the 550 head..

    Pitting

The valve looks like many I've seen since lead was phased out of fuel. If the motor still has compression within the limits in the manual, I'd keep riding it.

    Starter motor gear shaft problem?

Starter motor brushes worn or dirty. When you rock it,you're getting the brushes onto another part of the commutator. Job one after checking voltages as above is to pull the starter motor, strip and clean and check the brushes.

    Cruzinimage GS1000 gasket set

For a number of European bikes Athena has been the only option for some years. They've upped their game and it's now rare to hear any negative comments Specifically with GS1000's one problem they had was the base gasket oval O rings which were not thick enough to give the correct crush. There...

    1978 gs400 idle fuel

    GS400/500 Gr650 Hybrid engine

Don't. You'll drop a huge amount of compression with a 650 head on a small motor. There's nothing wrong with the 450 head. A mild port job and a recut of the valve seats is all that's needed.

    81 gs1100e, a top end rebuild story

IMO you're going to have to lift the head to see where the debris came from and how much damage it's done If it was just in one cylinder I'd guess a brass screw has come from somewhere along the inlet tract - but it's in three cylinders...
