A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Sticky trip meter - 81 GS1000G

Hiya team, I've found threads on speedo's being slow etc and am all over that subject. I understand that the speedo is magnetically controlled, and it seems accurate enough when compared to GPS source. My issue is that my trip meter is VERY slow to turn over (I didn't ride long enough to...

    Offered a (mostly)complete 1980 GS1000G for my 78 550E, what to do?

not sure whether it's a US market thing or not, but my '81 1000G has a chrome front fender - always has. (haven't read through the rest of the post yet to see what he did!) :-)

    New to me, GS1000GT

Awesome project. You, Sir, are a legend! Such a clever person - I believe there are many who wish they had the skills you have! Am just rebuilding my own 1000G but back to stock (except for a 4 into 1 pipe that was on it.) It had been sitting for years when I bought it back. Stripped carbs...

    If not jetting, then what?

Nice to see your progress Michael. I'm about to undertake the same process with my GS1000G. Still waiting for my JIS screwdrivers and new O-ring kit to arrive. But I'm hopeful that it's actually not witchcraft! Good on ya. Cheers, Griff

Welp, not a good end to the day.

sorry to hear that for both of you. Best of luck with whatever you (and the insurance company) decide to do.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Just waiting for some parts to arrive from the US of A and some tools from the UK (can't get JIS screwdrivers here in NZ), and then some work to overhaul, repair, rebuild, rejuvenate, and provide some TLC (just before our Winter mind you) to my old girl, and then I'll post some photos of our...

    '81 GS1000G fuel petcock

Had the plastic 'gasket' the wrong way around between the two parts of the diaphragm so it couldn't move! Put it back together and thought I'd fixed it - no fuel leakage for the ten minutes I had the tank sitting off the bike. Put the tank back on, started her up and very (very) soon started...

    '81 GS1000G fuel petcock

I know, I know.... I wish I'd read the posts on fuel petcock replacement BEFORE I got a parts kit from the US but......i'm not sure why only 10-15% of rebuilds are successful. Seems so simple! I bought a new non-OEM fuel petcock which leaked from new. Got my money back and thought I'd...

    '81 GS1000G returning owner.....

This is Muriel as I picked her up. You can see chrome front fender and thin pin-stripping as you've suggested above Combat. No running lights on this though. Cheers!

    '81 GS1000G returning owner.....

Had my bike, Muriel, from almost new. Kept it for many years but family and increased rego costs got in the way. Sold her very cheaply to a friend who was going to look after her. Break of ownership for about five years until late last year when I bought it back from a subsequent owner a...
