A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

From Grayson, GA to Midland, Tx and back on my GS850G

I know, right! I'll give the BMW some loving with the next trip opportunity.

From Grayson, GA to Midland, Tx and back on my GS850G

I really enjoy my RT too and it’s great on multi-day trips. Both bikes thankfully have seating positions which agree with my 50+ year old hips and back. On the GS, I found that alternating between front pegs and rear pegs helped a lot on long stretches between fill-ups. I’m sure many on this...

From Grayson, GA to Midland, Tx and back on my GS850G

Great question and yes I brought too many tools along with spare coil, CDI and an assortment of fuses. No spare clutch cable although it did cross my mind. I did use a 10mm socket to reinstall my rear seat latch after the bolts vibrated out. Glad I brought a few spare bolts too. When I got to...

From Grayson, GA to Midland, Tx and back on my GS850G

Last month, I completed a super fun solo trip from my home in Grayson, GA to Midland, TX and back on my '83 GS850G - 2,400 miles in total over 7 days (6 riding days). I had been in touch with a buddy who used to live near me but had moved to TX a few years back to start a new job. We had...

    Scratches inside cylinder head

From your picture, I would guess that someone along the line may have attempted to remove a shim without the correct tool.

    Pic of the week game

Sure. Like some others here, cycling is also a passion of mine and it's the rare occasion when I can combine both on the same trip. The bike on the back of the RT is my beloved Specialized S-Works Tarmac which has been my primary road bike for the last few years. I put about 5k miles on...

    Pic of the week game

Weekend in the Smokies Weekend in the Smokies Coming back from TN yesterday from my 2-wheeled weekend with my cousin. It's been a while since I've ridden on US-129 up there and the congestion/craziness has not changed. Was instantly reminded there are some better choices for routes to get...

How do I remove the bolts that keep the caliper together?

Noreg - like you I?m a cyclist and a GS rider. I?ve had some luck with prying pistons out by using 2 bike tire levers at the same time on opposite ends of the piston lip. It takes some fiddling but I found my blue park tool levers worked best. Plus they?re plastic and will not scar the lip of...

    Hello from Grayson, GA

Here are some pics of the bike today resting after getting to stretch its legs for a while. Just turned 21K close to home. Somewhere along the way a PO put on a tank from what I believe to be an '82. The side panels are mismatched so debating about a new paint job. For now, just gonna...

    Hello from Grayson, GA

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It's been fun getting the bike road worthy again. I was just able to sync carbs today on my lunch hour. No time for a test ride (grrrrr) but boy I can hear the difference!

    Hello from Grayson, GA

Hello and I'm glad to be back to the forum after a few years away. I've been slowly getting a '83 GS850G roadworthy again after buying the bike over a year ago. Gone is the vetter fairing and luggage while new bits and service details are too much to list at this point. I'm aiming to finish...
