A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. cleaning up the wiring on my project bike

I have posted about this project before. Bike (1981 gs850) was stolen and recovered. The thief had wired a switch on to run the bike. I just rewired an used ignition on the bike I bought of eBay. I rewired it the way he had it just to get the bike going again. I rode it around town for a while...

hard to put bike into netural when bike is running

So I finally got around to putting my bike(1981 gs850g) back together after checking valves. Runs so much better except it's really hard to put it in neutral when the bike is running. I can do it with my hand but not my foot. It works if the bike is not running. I did a google search and found a...

    Main jets or something else?

It idle fine, it dies with throttle which is why i think the main jet is clogged. The main jets have been drilled out.

    Main jets or something else?

So my project bike is an 1981 GS850G. I've had it since 2017 and posted about it. It was stolen and recovered (two years ago?). I had it going with pod filters and a basic rejetting last year. Had electrical issues and put the bike up. I got it running but it died whenever I give it gas and the...

Checking Valves for the first time.

I always thought it was strange that the manual suggests valve checks every 3k miles.

Checking Valves for the first time.

I'll have to try that one. The zip tie method looks interesting but I'm afraid of dropping the zip tie into the engine or messing something up, I'm a bit of a klutz.

Checking Valves for the first time.

Hello, as part of my rebuild project I decided to check my valves. All the intake valves are in spec but two of the exhaust valves are out of spec. I was able to get the one all the way to the right (if your sitting on the bike) which I think is #4? then use the manual to figure out the size I...

    Oil leak from Clutch seal

I'm still totally stumped on how to get the pinion out of the clutch cover. It isn't even mentioned in the shop manual as far as I can tell. Anyone have any advice?

    Oil leak from Clutch seal

I got it off! I went slow and used a lot of PB blaster and I didn't even strip one screw. I used a impact but I also used a long handled JIS screwdriver I loosened it while tapping it with a rubber mallet and it worked though it didn't seem like it was gonna work then it did. My question is how...

    Oil leak from Clutch seal

I actually bought some new repo ones on ebay last year and they didn't fit right and I returned them. Instead of spending money on some used one's I'd like to replace the battery tray and clean up that whole area and just have it open but I have more projects then time and I need to just get...

    Oil leak from Clutch seal

Man I really don't wanna pull the engine apart, I did that back in 2018 because oil was spraying my leg anytime I went over 55mph. I had help from an acquaintance who had a shop. We did a whole rebuild I think he charged me $600 and gave me a discount because I helped scrap off the old gasket...
