    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

brand new Chinatek ign installed/wired correctly, no spark on test light

I had a similar issue, is the magnet on the rotor strong enough. Try using a magnetic pickup tool to wave over pickup coils and see if you have spark at plugs.

    Fuel tank issue

In UK we got a 1978 GS1000 HC, twin front discs cast wheels with fluted tank. AKA the skunk as you American's call them.

    Hello, Dolly!

I used one here in UK, made by Clarke. Looks exactly the same only red. They work very well as long as on a reasonable smooth garage floor, as said put bike on side stand. I can easily push my GS1000 around on it.

    Fork Tube Identififixation

I believe the one with the bushing at bottom is for forks with forward axle, plain one for forks with axle under.

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

Strange that I can't see pictures here in UK ?. Just a blue box with content not viewable in your region.

    Oil sight glass

I have replaced one, make sure hole in case is nice and clean. I used scotchbright, very thin smear of threebond in hole and around sight glass rubber. Ease in with your thumb, wipe any excess sealer off with solvent and leave to set.

    GS750 Charging system….I hate them!

How many poles does the stator have ?. Early stators are 12 pole, if an 18 pole stator is fitted to an early flywheel it probably won't work correctly.

what did you wrench on today??

Years ago I snapped mine off and lost it, I welded on an old pushrod from a truck engine. It looked ok as it had a small ball end similar to original.

    79 850G Choke Cable Replacement?

That's the wrong cable. It should have a ball nipple not a barrel shaped one. That cable is for CV type carbs. Also your missing a brass ferrule in your first picture, it is the adjustment point to take up slack and guide the cable.

    Broken carb fuel mixture tip

Bill, I think I have a set of bare carb bodies. They have the choke pickup tubes removed, they can be carefully taken out. I will find them and see what condition there in. Looking at your profile your in Bristol UK ?.
