A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Riding home from work. Came to an intersection. Knew it was one to watch so I always slow down. Car came to a stop. Then pulled out in front of me. Through some not so pretty maneuvers, I managed to miss by less that a foot, Pulled over to shoulder, Shorts OK Cager behind me did stop and ask if...

Riding with Choke on? GS750E (New rider)

Try a fuel system cleaner-it may work. The CURE is disassembly, METICULOUS cleaning (pilot jets!) and reassembly and balancing. From experience on same bike. When you get it right it is a great ride!

    Vacuum petcock

Problem solved. Ordered a new vacuum petcock from Everett Motorsports. Works as designed. Prime is slot vertical. Crank enough to get vacuum and it stays open until turned horizontal for run. Then shuts off when engine is shut down.

    Vacuum petcock

    Vacuum petcock

Answer to my issue. The rubber check valve (#5) does not hold in my petcock for prime.

    Vacuum petcock

So if I read this right -turn to prime, crank the engine, and a check valve will hold vacuum on the diaphragm. Even without the engine vacuum supplied, So you must turn the engine over for fuel to flow to prime the carb. When on only -the fuel will turn on with vacuum, but shut off without...

    Vacuum petcock

So I pulled the petcock today. It is the model with NO lever. In researching a new one they do not come with a lever. Tried different positions with it off the bike using pressure and vacuum on the outlet. No fuel flow unless vacuum is applied to open the valve. Seems to be specific to 1980 and...

    Vacuum petcock

Here is where I am at. Getting repairs done when snow is still on the ground. Ordered a fuel hose and spring. When I get them I will drain tank and check it out again to see if it passes fuel before tearing it apart.

    Vacuum petcock

1981 GS750EX I have the original vacuum petcock. It works fine as far as riding and running, does not leak through when sitting. Prime does not work. I did put a kit in the petcock a few years ago. What makes the prime work? Just makes it a long crank after sitting. Thanks.

The Fear of Failure (First time restoration woes)

I have the same bike in maroon. Came with pods. Could not get it to run right. Obtained the correct intake, runs really well.Guess you need to decide if you want a racer or a road worthy machine. It will take a lot to improve on the original.

    Worth buying Airbox boots?

Also check the airbox for warpage. It was a bigger issue than the boots on mine. Used a combination of and expander from inside and a heat gun to get straight. This winter I fixed a few things I did not get the first time. Paint, fuel feed orings, stripes, carb balance etc.

    choke (starter) cable

I got a used cable off EBAY, No fraying, but very stiff. Ended up slitting the cover at the binding spot and lubing. It freed up. Covered the slit with a long section of shrink tube Also changed the knob cover from the old cable. The seller did give me a partial refund . For the price it will work.
