A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

a thank you to all past gs 550 threads

Sounds like either the carbs are still dirty or the gas tank has stuff in it plugging the petcock screen . Did you purge the fuel tank and the fuel line when you cleaned the carbs?

New owner of a 1982 GS 750T Questions

You can use any engine part from the 16 valve 750 series. The gauges are interchangeable with the GS850L I believe. The gas tank, seat and side covers are unique to this bike. The mufflers are shared with the E model. The forks are unique as well. If you need something more specific, let me know.

gs550 won't start... I am very sad... and need help!

Hi, I meant the spark plugs. Sorry, I wasn't clear  Why did I get rid of it? I got the double whammie... Between getting very ill last summer and then getting scammed on ebay to the tune of $500 and needed to sell the bike to pay negative balance on Paypal... And Peter knew what I was...

gs550 won't start... I am very sad... and need help!

If the engine turns over (meaning cranks)... Check the plugs. I remember that the owner after me had set the carbs to rich so they may be fouled. Also is the engine cranking or just making a clicking noise? If it is just clicking... There is probably a loose ground on that bike. Check the link...

Wow... You bought my old bike. That was in fact my bike and I did most of the mods (frame, bars, fork rebuild, etc etc). That tank was a NOS tank and the petcock was brand new too.

Bike refuses to start... I need help

Unless the wiring is wrong here... It's time to do what I initially thought and Nes suggested. It will be checking the engine timing.

Bike refuses to start... I need help

Oh and to be clear... The left side coil has the rearmost plug wire feeding number 1 cylinder. The front plug wire on the left side is feeding number 4. The right side coil rearmost wire is feeding number 2 cylinder and the front wire is feeding number 3 cylinder.

Bike refuses to start... I need help

Left coil is feeding 1 and 4. Right coil is feeding 2 and 3. All of the following images were taken from the right side of the bike (foot brake side). I think the wiring is correct at this point. But I could be wrong... Sighs. Help?

Duane, I previously tried starting fluid and it was a no go (prior post). I have narrowed it down to ignition or timing. Just got to find some time to make it right. :(

Yaser, I thought about the chrome/black thing, but it might be sort of cool. Ok, who's good with photoshop? Make me a picture. And go..... I was thinking the same thing about the sticker. I need one as well and haven't sourced it yet. The start switch? I don't know yet. I was really hoping...
