A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Brakes, front tire, chain

It is stock but I can tell it was worked on by the PO - the dust cover is glued together at points to mend tears and the piston has some damage. I don't know enough to determine if it's safe and I'm not taking that risk with my front wheel so I'm rebuilding it w new seals + a piston from...

    Brakes, front tire, chain

I guess I can take the wheel off, break the bead and reseat and if it's in the same spot of the rim it's rim related, tire it's bead related and needs to be replaced?

    Brakes, front tire, chain

So while I wait for my tach cable I'm working on some other components that need love. I changed brake fluid and the front brake is nice and firm but as I was looking for the leak in my front wheel, there is quite noticeable drag as I spin it - I don't think I did anything wrong replacing...

    Grime in Valve Cover

Thanks everyone for your help & encouragement. I replaced those o-rings and noticed one of the needle jets wasn't properly seated so I fixed that, double checked all the passages and float heights, the 2.5 turns on the air-mixture screws, changed oil (i was happy to see people deem rotella...

    Grime in Valve Cover

Thank you, drive tab was checked and spinning so at least it's not worst case scenario! As for fuel delivery I may have possibly found an issue, my new vent tee o-rings were quite thin and it didn't fit together snugly (incredibly loose) when ganging the carbs, so I'm concerned air is leaking...

    Grime in Valve Cover

Well it may be time for me to throw in the towel. 2 weeks and many a dollar on tools, chemicals, and parts later I'm actually at a worse place than where I started. New battery, went through the carbs again and made 100% sure float height in spec, moving freely, no clogged passages, o-rings...

Adjusting Idle Mixture on CV carbs...

Thanks for resharing, I'm close to this stage but waiting on warmer weather so my hands can actually move.

    Grime in Valve Cover

When i tested spark initially it wasn't very blue, more orange than anything - and it was dusky out. I'll do the plug checks when it gets a little warmer out, the cold returned and i'm working outside :cold::cold:

    Grime in Valve Cover

I gave that a few tries today along with my other additions, able to start for a couple seconds but battery quickly drained. Cranking at 10.4V which I imagine is low on the acceptable range.

    Grime in Valve Cover

So everything back together and it's still failing to start. Spark - Ignition coils and spark plugs were replaced (I replaced one bad coil last year). Spark is present in all cylinders. Battery was fully charged and measured 12.6 Air/Fuel - Cleaned and bench-synced carbs. One was rebuilt with a...

my 4 middle bolts are also longer but it doesn't mention that in the book.

    Grime in Valve Cover

This is what I'm mad at myself for, I have a lot of experience installing/removing/assembling IT/networking equipment and I definitely felt it over-tightening but against my own instincts I trusted some crappy tool (and even that the spec is 6-7ft/lbs so I thought I was on the safer side). In...

    Grime in Valve Cover

Bad news good news... So I actually broke off two bolts. Good news is great news, after trying about 6 different pliers and locking pliers unable to get a grip, I tried this $2 flush cutter I got to trim gasket and it worked like a charm, my eyes weren't so quick to believe - most likely I made...

    Grime in Valve Cover

so broke a bolt reinstalling the cover... I used a torque wrench set to 5ftlbs, Heard the click and thought "great" then I look and see the screw head is missing. Haven't taken it off yet to see how dire my situation is. I know I'm going to wreck something else if I keep working on this today.

So... Anyone have a gasket templates for valve covers?

    Grime in Valve Cover

I definitely did the order/position properly. I just haven't done it before so I'm still a little uncertain if I measured properly. Hard for me to believe they were off by as much as they were.

    Grime in Valve Cover

Gasket remover. Of course that exists.... It just didn't even cross my mind because I was thinking "Gaskets are made for the specific purpose of not reacting to chemicals, just takes muscle I guess". I should go back to elementary school...

    Grime in Valve Cover

I'll try the rag and scotchbrite tomorrow, I'm about 1/2 finished clearing it today using a credit card and diesel for big stuff. So I already took apart the carbs since the master carb was visibly flooding, float was completely stuck and rusted, that carb wasn't recoverable so I ordered a...

    Grime in Valve Cover

So, going through my GS750T methodically this year because I never got it running well in the last. Had carbs and tank off (cleaning them) so figured I should check the valves. Opened it up and every valve was out of the 0.004-0.005" range - what it says in the book for TSCC. (they were all...

    Starting Trouble

So, leaving it on PRI and running it and sitting for a couple weeks wont lead to fuel gushing out of the air filter and an inability to start right? My cousin who is a mechanic volunteered to help get the bike to idle properly. He claims to have cleaned the carbs and got it running great, that...
