A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Oil consumption, time for a rebuild?

Just finished a 1,200 km ride on my 1982 GS650G. I always ride with a litre of oil in the saddle bags, and on this trip the bike consumed a full litre of 10W40. My mates riding close behind said they only saw a slight puff of smoke when I was accelerating hard, otherwise the exhaust is clear...

    fuel tap issues

I had to buy some fuel line from Canadian Tire to get it to fit, I needed about 4? and paid about $2 for a foot. Easy install. It?s been over 3,000 km with multiple transitions from Prime, Run and Reserve.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

First ride of the season, 250 km. The switch to new quiet Emgo exhausts and 30 dB ear plugs have made my riding significantly more enjoyable.

    fuel tap issues

After more than a decade riding vintage British where you always turned off the fuel tap it still rattles me when I just walk away from the GS without turning off the fuel.

    fuel tap issues

I bought this one and it?s been fine for over two seasons now, through many a switch between prime, run and reserve. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07GSXY9PD/ref=pe_1086170_134824320_cm_rv_eml_rv0_dp Perhaps they have a UK source?

    Removing hub and bearings

Be very careful when you reattach the joint hub. I overtorqued two and the snapped off. Had to drill them out and helicoil.

what did you wrench on today??

Sigh.... after a fun 130 km run last weekend, today was winterization. Oil changed, Castrol 10w40, K&N 133 filter, ethanol-free fuel topped up with stabilizer, engine idled to spread stabilizer, vacuum removed from carb to starve carbs and shutdown engine, all paintwork waxed, and all metal...

    MotoMaster 15W40 Diesel Oil

At Canadian Tire I always buy Castrol?s motorcycle oil, the 10w40 variety. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/castrol-grand-prix-motorcycle-oil-4-stroke-0281826p.html. Why are we running off-spec diesel oil through our bikes now?

r/r questions: how to find out if r/r is series or shunt?

We talk about how the OEM shunt r/r doesn't last, stresses our wires/connectors and destroys the stator, however we're all riding bikes that are decades old, and many, like mine ran on their original r/r for well over 30 years and 40,000 km before I replaced it due to an overcharging issue which...

    I bought another Suzuki

I am looking at the 2020 V-Strom 650. It’s one of the few ADV-themed bikes without the ridiculous high exhaust that blocks pannier space. I like the compact plastic side cases. I just wish it was shaft drive. Will someone please make a sub-700cc upright bike with shaft drive?
