A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Battery time, again

My Yuasa battery died today after three years and this last season running at 16.5v due to a poor r/r. We're all good now, new r/r installed on the weekend and bought another Yuasa. Let's see how long it runs now that the r/r is allowing the usual 13.5-14.5v.

    Clutch slipping? Or needs adjustment?

I usually change gear at 5,000 rpm, but I?ve been trying to test peak hp and torque for my ?82 GS650G, which means running up to 9,000 rpm. I find at over 6,500 rpm the clutch slips, suddenly roaring the motor to over 9,000 rpm before catching again and returning to 6,500 to 7,500 rpm. It only...

    1983 GS650G Decals

Nice, and a Canadian source too! I'm thinking of repainting my '82 GS650G this winter, but not the traditional burgundy/red or black. I'm thinking British Racing Green, so I would need decals that would look okay in this colour.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Did a nice 330 km run with my mates. See map here. Great riding around the lakes north east of Toronto. Stopped for a socially distant bagged lunch in Buckhorn. Whenever I think I should get a brand new bike, my GS650G impresses me. What new sub-750cc motorcycle can I find with shaft...

    Compression #'s ?

Just got my bike back from the shop. 150 # in all but one piston, that show 110 #s. Bike is running well, so I wonder if the test was off.

    750 engine into 650 frame?

I don?t believe a GS750 was made with shaft drive for export markets. The progression on shafties from GS650G onwards is here https://www.suzukicycles.org/GS-series/index.html

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Just returned from a three day, 1,200 km club ride with 19 friends to Algonquin Park. Stayed two nights on Boshkung Lake, Algonquin Highlands, ON. Saturday saw us ride 500 km on fantastic rural roads and autumn colours. Was sunny but cold, see frost on bikes. Friend brought his 1981 GS750...

Another sign of what is ahead for the motorcycle hobby...

Though chain drive aside, I have to say I?ve been leering at the Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe as a new machine, even more so than the Triumph T120 that I thought was my dream bike. https://www.kawasaki.com/products/2018-Z900RS-CAFE

    GS Cargo Carriers

I make do with these throw overs affixed with zip ties. I'd like to find a rear carrier but no luck.

    Craigslist "funnies"

GS650G, chain driven? Doesn't that make it an "E"? https://www.kijiji.ca/v-street-cruisers-choppers/oshawa-durham-region/suzuki-gs-650-g-for-sale-all-original/1453527744?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

    Help diagnosing a craigslist GS650 G

I have the same bike. When I bought it I took it to my local vintage Japanese bike shop and had them certify it and go over the entire machine. Cost me a few hundred bucks but got everything fettled, fluids all round, brake cables replaced, air filter, all electrical connections cleaned and...

    Engine "Badge"

Don’t order anything that doesn’t show a photo of exactly what you’re getting. I ordered engine emblems from Babbitts online and quoted the correct part # but they do not show the pics of what they sell. So, the badges arrive and they’re wrong for my model GS650G, showing DOHC logo instead of...

Any tires that are good for street and trail?

I think you’re right. Looking at the site https://www.shinkotireusa.com/products I think I may have been more accustomed to the Classic 240. The ads of the time show an OEM tire that’s closer to the Dunlop K-70 look. Here’s a period shot of a bike like mine, GS650G. I wonder what these...

Any tires that are good for street and trail?

For me it's their traction over wet streetcar tracks and road plates. On my old Triumph with Dunlop K70s I could turn at a reasonable 15-20 kph over a wet rail and the bike didn't care, but on the Suzuki with the Shinkos it feels like it's going to lose the rear end if I approach a rail at...

Any tires that are good for street and trail?

I have Shinko 712 on my 82 GS650G and I’m not liking their wet weather traction whatsoever. On my 1969 Triumph 500 twin I ran Dunlop K70s and they were great in all weather and soft earth, plus grippy on the fast and dry twisties. IDK if the K70 would look right on my GS...
