A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

"Stuck" removing secondary drive unit - 1100G

Many of you may have seen my beat up secondary drive unit housing on my 1100G (click on leaky transmission seal in my signature). Well, a benevolent GSR member arranged to send me a used one so I thought I would pull the old one out and swap out just the housing (don't want to change...

    XYLOL for surface rust

I'm not sure about the adverse affects on metal parts, but I can tell you it has adverse affects on YOU! I'm assuming that XYLOL's main ingredient is Xylene and if so, this stuff kills brain cells quicker than anything on the planet, AND it causes cancer. There's probably a disclaimer on the...

How well to Air cooled GS's handle hot weather and stop n go traffic?

Roadwarrior, I can tell you that the 2 valve models from your era (77-79) do not fair that well in 85+ degrees fahrenheit. Engine killer? No, but your pipes may blue a bit and you'll notice a decrease in performance. My 78 750 is the same bike as your plus a few extra CCs and I avoid in town...

    Longer shocks - '83 GS1100ED

Adam, Progressive 12" series are much less than $250 if you look in the right place. I don't have my notes with me here at the office, but I think you could put together a set of 12 series from MAW for about $190. If you get into the 412's, that's when you start breaking $250+. Joe, Could you...

82 1100G secondary gear output shaft leak

FF, Fortunately, I had the engine unbolted and hoisted because I had to drill out a bolt in the cam cover. If it happens again, I'll go with the swingarm. Thanks for the advice. Also, you can't see it too well in the picture, but the bolt at 1 o'clock got hit so hard that it bent. I figure if...

82 1100G secondary gear output shaft leak

I have yet to reinstall the whole thing while I wait on the seal to arrive. But yes, I do intend to put on some locktite. The manual states the same thing. I'll have to degrease the threads on the other side though; they are covered in the bearing grease from the universal joint. J

82 1100G secondary gear output shaft leak

You should have seen the aluminum housing for the secondary gear! It looks like someone took a cold chisel and a hammer and just randomly hit the thing all over. As for further fixes, it's a matter now of putting this thing back together and then figure out if the carbs are running right. The...

82 1100G secondary gear output shaft leak

Thanks Lynn. I do have good news though. I was able to do it without removing the whole unit. I was really stewing over it and decided I wasn't going to sleep unless I gave it a try. I already had a floor jack underneath the rear of the engine and the front hanging by ratchet straps from...

    Installing clutch plates

I used this article as a reference when I did my first clutch job and everything went fine. It's very informative and comes with pictures (similar enough to a GS). Good luck! Jon

    R/R wiring question

Joe, I run my +wire straight to the battery terminal and the -black wire straight to the frame. Then again, my 78 750E does not have a switched fuse block, but one fuse in between the +side of the starter relay and the ignition switch. I could have sworn in the stator papers it mentions to...

82 1100G secondary gear output shaft leak

Any of you guys out there with shafties ever replaced the seal on the output shaft of the engine? Three of the four bolts that connect the output shaft flange to the universal joint in the swingarm came out sometime before I bought this thing and in the process, one of them made a huge gash in...

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Wolfie, You can buy those plugs at any suzuki dealer. I just bought one for my #4 carb a few weeks ago. I think it cost a couple of bucks (rip off of course). Use humhead's link to Alpha sports, get the part # and call your dealer. IF the dealer has a minimum credit card order, drop by and...

Of course it broke!!!! Tensioner then valve cover bolt

Oh, you all should have seen it! It was a sight me trying to get the motor moved enough to drill out the bolt on the valve cover. To make a long story short, I freed the motor from the mounts, disconnected the ONE bolt that was holding my universal joint on the shaft drive together (holy crap...
