If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Of course it broke!!!! Tensioner then valve cover bolt

I got into a double whammy tonight with my 1100G. I'm taking off the bolts to the valve cover and have all but the last one off. Of course that's the one that broke and it's right underneath the mount for the left ignition coil and I'm not sure yet how I will get it out. Pulling/leaning the...

    broken shock bolt !!!

Bobo, Make sure you use a grade 5 or better bolt on those shock towers. A regular bolt (grade 3) will undoubtedly bend on you. -Jon

    dead ignition.

jlso, It could be a faulty starter relay. Mine whet bad and even caused a short in the whole system. So, not only would my starter not work, I would be riding along and the whole bike would cut out intermittently at speed. Finally, I turned the key on got nothing. Remove the starter and...

    GS charging system questions

Depends on which Honda R/R units you have laying around. If they are the ones with that fit stators with field coils, then they won't work. I'm with Gary on this one. Install a voltmeter and watch the voltage when you're out riding. If it drops below 13 when riding at revs, start getting...

    GS750B fuel consumption

I'm with Keith on this one. The best I've got with my '78 750E is 38 or 39 and I usually get about 34-35 in town. I have a 4-1 exhaust with stock carbueration and a K&N factory replacement filter (not pods). I've been told by several GSR members that I can run the stock mains as long as I...

    CV carb float pins stuck

Good news all. I was successful in getting them out. Going on scud's idea of getting a hold on the head of the pin with some side cutters, I took a beater pen knife and tapped the edge of the blade between the head and the tower. This gave enough clearance to then tap down the fingernail file...

    CV carb float pins stuck

Scud, Do you mean that I should use the edges of the side cutters to get behind the head of the pin and draw it out? Surely you don't mean to cut the head off. I know the float bowl will keep the pin in place once it is on, but cutting the head off seems drastic and will sure kill the pliers...

    CV carb float pins stuck

Greetings all: I jist had my CV carbs apart on my 1100G and I could not get the float pins out. I was using a very small drift punch and was tapping lightly as I did not want to knock the hinge tower off. None of the four would budge whatsoever. And I was not tapping on the "head" side of...

    removing the valve cover

Lynn, Thanks for the installation tips. Do you just mean silicone RTV (automotive) for the end caps or actual clear silicone (household)? I've found that pencil erasers work well for keeping small bolt holes covered up when necessary. I don't have a 1/4" torque wrench, but I think the auto...

    removing the valve cover

Thanks for the advice all. I've got my trusty dead blow mallet handy as well as a can of gasket remover. The torque wrench is ice cold and ready to wrench them back in too. I've already bought the factory gasket from Suzuki, so if it goes south, I'll invest in the silicone one next time. I...

    removing the valve cover

Well, I'm searching the website o' great wisdom and wanted to know if anyone has any tips on removing the valve cover bolts on my gs1100g. Just twist off slow? Impact driver? I entered endless search combinations using the GSR's search feature and came up with mostly leak issues. Anybody...

Added hazard lights to my 83 GS1100 G

After reading a few stories and having been on the side of the road messing with something or another, I decided it would be helpful to add a hazard light circuit to my 1100G. It's a pretty simple mod, and from the get-go I decided to use a separate flasher relay instead of tying into the one...

Speedo ratio in speedo or sender?

Mac, The tach is a much easier thing to replace. Aftermarket tachs from AutoMeter and others use the ignition coils as the source for the revs, not a mechanical line. Not sure about the speedo since both the 700 and the 550 Katana are sort of specialty GS's. -j

    Personal cold WX riding record

Well, I made a colossal mistake in my transportation planning on Friday and ended having to take the bike to make my afternoon appointment. Having been busy lately, I've not had a chance to swap out my cafe fairing, so there was little I could do to keep from eating some cold air for lunch. By...

    Tranny dropping out of 2nd

Domino, That's not the kind of tranny I use. Always got your mind in the gutter! GSBert, I'm not trying to shift. It's shifting "without my permission". This was driving me crazy when I was on the dragon at the E/SE rally. I would wrap up in second pretty high on the straighter...

    Tranny dropping out of 2nd

Does anyone have an inclination why my 78 GS750 might be dropping out of second (and into third) when I decelerate at high RPMs? I know the clutch and springs are good because I replaced that last year thinking that would help. Really the only time it happens is when I'm doing 7-9K on the tach...

Do you use a tank bag often? Straps or Mag?? Please vote!!!

I have a Chase Harper tank bag. It has the leash to the handlebars and it only has magnets directly below the bag - no flaps. My bag has never slid off the tank. It has a nice textured rubber bottom to it and it has never affected my paint. I do take it on and off when not in use though. -J
