A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Bunko Front Master Cylinder

Jeff and BW, So far so good. I am at my workshop and have successfully reassembled the MC. Made a custom stainless washer and got a new retaining clip since the old one was literally rusted halfway through. Upon first bench bleeding, I found that it I squeezed the lever and then stuck my...

    Bunko Front Master Cylinder

Jeff Jiggles: Thanks for the recommendation. I'll give it a try after I reassemble the MC. I got all remaining gunk out and will reassemble after I get a new retaining ring. The old one is quite rusty. Keep your fingers crossed! jon 8O

    Bunko Front Master Cylinder

OK Gang, I am panic stricken here. Rally is on Friday and I've got a front master cylinder that won't pump any fluid in my front lines. Here's the scoop on my 78 GS750: Stock rubber brake lines showing heavy cracking. Got to replace these things before I take the 800+ mile roadtrip to...

Brian, Anything to raise visibility! :P :P :P

    Any gas-resistant rattle-can clear coat?

Brian, I just put VHT Clear Gloss Engine enamel on my clutch cover. The trick is that it does not become chemical resistant until you cure it at 200 degrees for one hour. Probably pretty hard to do on the gas tank unless you take it off and put it in the oven. I haven't tested it on gas...

    barnett extra plate clutch kit

You guys are scaring me here. Ryan, I just put Vesrah Fibers and Barnett plates in my 750 and have yet to take it for a spin. I am waiting to bleed my new front stainless brake lines. I had to completely readjust the rod that pushes out the pressure plate because even though I used the same...

Man it sure is dark, wish I had a headlight.

Oops  , Nerobro is right. Running in series puts strain on the voltage while running parallel strains the amperage. So, one would not be dimmer than the other if in series - just both. Thanks Nerobro. I edited my previous post for the sake of the archives! RockyMountain, you'll...

Man it sure is dark, wish I had a headlight.

<Edit> It's definitely got to be parallel. Otherwise, they will run dimmer than they should. Since volts times amps equals watts, each headlight is pulling 5 amps. I don't know what the total output for you system is, but you'll have 10A draining constantly and then whatever the engine...

How to polish corroded engine covers quickly and in situ?

BW, I just polished my points cover with Fabulustre polish. It took of the clear coat and subsequently polished the cover to a mirror finish. I converted one side of my bench grinder into a polishing lathe for less than $10 (tapered spindle and cotton buffs). The polish was an additional $6...

How to protect the shine on engine cases/chrome and exhaust?

D, While I was doing research into what clear coat I could put on some of my now polished case covers, I ran across a few paste/liquid products that are for protectants for aluminum. An example here in this link: http://www.marchperf.com/pg68.html Search for "aluminum wax" with google etc...

Contradicory specs in Haynes for fork oil levels??

I'm not sure about your amounts, but I would use 10W fork oil from your local MC shop. Beats mixing stuff up and its only about $5. See if anyone pipes up with access to a factory service manual. Maybe you can get your amounts from them. Good luck.

Is there an easy way to remove old gaskets

Be careful with blades of any kind. They are harder than the aluminum and can gouge it if you have a slip. I like to use piece of 1/4" acrylic or plexiglass that has a straight edge on it somewhere. Tough enough to take out gasket material, buit not aluminum. Some solvents may soften the...

    Baffle vs. spark plugs

Scotty, Adam and Brian, Ok, I will start experimenting. I've got the fiche and the factory manual for my ride, so i will start there with jets. I'll take it out for a spin (with ear plugs) w/o the plate I stuck in the exhaust and see what a few miles do to the plugs as well. My exhaust is...

    Baffle vs. spark plugs

Adam, Actually I have the K&N stock replacement filter, not the pods. I've only been running that for a few weeks now and my plugs still read the same as they have for the last two or three years with the stock filter. What specifically is the difference with the R on the plugs (besides less...

    Tires, Brakes, or Driver?

I've got Dunlop 491s on the front and back and I like them quite a bit in the rain. I got my back tire + mounting for about $120. I've seen them around on the web starting at about $70 (depends on size and if front or back). I've had three different shops tell me to run matched tires! -Jon

    Baffle vs. spark plugs

Ok, I have sifted through MANY back-posts concerning backpressure and lean/rich fuel mixtures. My predicament is this: Charging system is good as well as the coils. I am running B7ES plugs because the 8's ALWAYS foul out. My 7's stay clean enough for the bike to run well (in my eyes at...

Just got a GS550E with some issues...

Nerobro, Until you've got 14V at the battery at 5000 RPM, I would not consider it fixed. I hate to say it, but after working on my charging system for almost 3 years with crappy instructions from Clymer (and finally being rescued by the stator papers) it'll never keep the battery up unless you...

Cycle Recycle has 11" shocks and they are much less than Progressive shocks. Mind you the Progressive shocks are fine pieces of equipment, but balancing price and performance can always be an issue. Here is the link: http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/general_accessories.htm Scroll down until...
