A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

It will get here. I just want to give him the dope and background info first so he will understand the what and why of it. All the clues are in his replies of what he said, or didn't say. lol Keepin it simple for the moment. The train is coming, will Pauline be rescued from the track in...

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

I would be willing to bet money the charging problem and R/R's consistently burning out is related to the ground fault in the stator. I think a new stator is needed and I would not be inclined to reinstall an old one. But for now, leave it be and disconnected since it does not apply to your...

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

I think you should take the cap and float bowl off the #4 carb, remove the main jet and with a dowel, push the spray bar out the bottom and inspect the 14 holes that are in the sides of the spray bar. I would not be surprised if they are clogged.

When you cleaned the four carbs, did you clean out the 56 orifices/ in the 4 spray bars with a wire bristle?

Engine not running and ignition switched OFF. You've combined some right and some wrong. heh Set meter to ohms, lowest setting that is greater than expected reading. In this case set meter to measure 0.0 to 0.5 ohms range. Place one probe of meter on a leg/lead and the other probe to engine...

I know exactly what it is. It checks for an internal electrical short between phases. The reading should be ZERO.

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

That is called a short circuit. That's no different that taking the phase wire from an AC outlet in your house and shorting it to ground.

    Are the points reliable?

I used to have a 79 GS 750 E. I bought it with points installed in it. a couple years later, I installed a Dyna ignition in it and it kick started just fine. BTW, electronic ignitions (DYNA) are NOT CDI.

Between where and where are you checking ground to get a reading of 50v AC going to ground?

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

True, the stator doesn't affect how the bike runs. So, we can bypass that for the time being. However, I still believe it is out of spec and the problem with the charging system and the cause of R/R's frying. I don't know what "weighted carb floats" means I think whoever rebuilt your carbs...

I take it you have only sprayed here and there and NOT removed the carb rack and four carbs, completely disassembled them and soaked the metal parts in Berrymans to clean them before blowing them out, drying and installing new O rings, bowl gaskets, and setting float bowl tabs?? Or in other...

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

Never spray carb cleaner into an assembled carb. It is only to be used to clean disassembled carbs when the rubber O rings and plastic parts have been removed. It dissolves O rings and plastic. Do a vacuum synch on the carbs. You may not have induction with the way they now are. The Morgan...

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

1 fires normal and 4 does not fire. I take it that means you swapped the 1 and 4 leads and 1 still fires normal and 4 still does not. Then there is nothing wrong with your coil, plug wires or plug caps. It is not an ignition problem. Considering you have compression, it is not a valve...

Reasons my bike would go to twin mode

The three legs should each be between 70 and 80v AC. all three legs have to be working properly for the system to charge normally. I would put a new stator on my list with those readings. The old one is probably the original anyway, so it doesn't owe you anything after 40 yers. lol If the...
