    Repairing seat foam?

Similar on the 850: dogs had eaten some chunks out. Bought the overpriced (but not real expensive) repair foam kit off ebay. Cut the holes a little more regular, 3M's chunks of new foam in, cut raggedly to shape. Kit came with a sheet of very thin foam/wrap...covered the whole seat with that to...

    Crash Bars...yay or nah?

I had a 650L which I dropped on the street, not running. (don't ask) Leetle piece of gravel made enough of a ding in the stator cover that it dripped a little oil forever after. (Or until I put an ugly glop of JB weld on it.) After that, I put 3-point bars on every bike. Won't do nothin in a...

not this year.... spending quality time with the mixture screws and needle shims instead. Perhaps 2017.....

    GS850 Left Side Cover

Thats the stator cover side, right? I had mine off the other week, and the outside washer on the starter gear fell down. (to fit the gear in,, you put it in place, then slide the shaft in to pin it. There's a thin flat washer inside and outside to control float or some such.... I think that...

    Disconnecting autocancel 1979 850 signals

Recently, I was troubleshooting the turn signals on my endlessly project-worthy bike. Having cleaned all grounds and fixed various things, the turn signals blink nicely, when the bike is stationary (running or not). But as soon as it is in motion, it auto-cancels at once. (unless you hold the...

persistant oil leak on the engine...above head gasket level, any obvious candidates?

I don't post on here to feel smart: Issue was the cam tensioner not being bolted on tightly enough. Little drizzle out the top of the mating surface, runs right forward through the fins and comes out right where you'd expect. Thanks to all for help isolating/narrowing the field of problems.....

persistant oil leak on the engine...above head gasket level, any obvious candidates?

Thank you all for the suggestions and similar situations: I'll post when I find out which of these things is the culprit.

persistant oil leak on the engine...above head gasket level, any obvious candidates?

well...it OUGHT to be leaking from there.... but despite many cleanings, oil always appears (prior to riding anywhere) definitely above the ledge above the gasket, making its way down to the gasket.... I would much rather it was a gasket seep. That would make more sense.

persistant oil leak on the engine...above head gasket level, any obvious candidates?

as you face the engine; right beside the cam chain protrusion/tunnel, 1 fin above head gasket level. Oil is coming from w/in the fins (source hidden), running down over the little 'platform' that justs out and has the tab bolt between head and base, and drips down onto the headers from there...

persistant oil leak on the engine...above head gasket level, any obvious candidates?

Did this twice, plus the 3rd time pictured (sans powder)... oil appears consistently in the same spot (spreads elsewhere once in motion...) I'll see what I find... Thanks!

persistant oil leak on the engine...above head gasket level, any obvious candidates?

Thank you gentlemen. I'll investigate the drive sleeve... is there potential for it to leak far back from the engine face? All the tachometer gear visible on the engine stays clean, and the oil is definitely appearing much lower, coming from 'inside' the fins.....

persistant oil leak on the engine...above head gasket level, any obvious candidates?

1979 GS850. newbie stuff done, good compression, runs quite nicely now. New head gasket, base gasket, valve cover gasket, valve oil seals, cam tensioner O-rings 515 miles ago. HAs a small but increasing oil seep from inside the engine fins beside the cam chain tower. Picture is immediately...

I'll check w/ them and see what they mailed me......will take you up on it if they sent the wrong thing for sure..... thanks!

quick stator test + turn signal challenge makes me scratch my head.

If'n I ordered a stator from Z1 for a 79 gs 850, am I likely to get the right part? (and/or, will an 18 pole switch in OK?)

quick stator test + turn signal challenge makes me scratch my head.

I'm following previous discussions and stator papers/POSplayer tests, as well as ordering various parts, but If anyone has any insight, I'd be grateful as all get out.. relatively unmolested 1979 850. OEM turn signals, R/R, wiring harness, auto-cancel box, et cetera. Dyna coils and coil...

    Testing petcock

I also have a '79 850. First I rebuilt the original with a kit. Then I rebuilt the spare with another kit. Both worked sometimes, and sometimes the diaghpram just didn't pop closed and it leaked. Then I added a manual fuel shutoff. Eventually I spent the damn $98 dollars to buy an new OEM...

    marble ontario blue Paint

If anyone comes up with a good match/source... please post! Even the 'dealer' repair (overspray of side panels, just up to the tape line..) that was done to my '79 back in the day doesn't quite match the original.

    capnjim sold me some parts.

And they arrived speedily, well packaged, and on time. Communication was clear and efficient. Payment worked great. If he sells more parts on here, you can buy them with confidence. Recommend!:)
