A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Correct colour and decal set for 78 US spec red GS750E

I contacted Diablo about correct pinstripes for the blue 79 850 (since they only had the red version)... they responded quickly, and were totally willing to run up a set, subject to getting a 1-2 inch sample of the original stripes and some photos of the bike. Cost was similar to their in-stock...

1979 850GN.. rear shock leaked riding 2-up. Is it toast?

Thank you much for the knowledge.... on the list go some better shocks. Somewhere behind the top-end gasket/rings refresh and somewhere ahead of the new grips....

1979 850GN.. rear shock leaked riding 2-up. Is it toast?

Just completed a 500 mile 'break-in' trip on the '79 850G. (And yes... I have had the carbs done, set the valves, rebuilt the calipers, cleaned the electrical system, changed every fluid several times, redone the fork seals, replaced tires, and so on...) About half of that was with my wife on...

Would buy an 850 cover, if its a reputable deal and there were enough people on board.

1979 850 with loud MAC 4/2, hoping to find stock pipes...what years will interchange?

Having no luck with the search function....Apologies if this is a common question and I've missed it. On the parts fiche, the part #s change somewhat between 79 and later years... but has anyone had experience/luck using later years' mufflers on a 1979 850G? The headers are fine...and the MAC...

    I hate helmets

Washington has a helmet law, and I've always worn one....heading over the border to Idaho, it's a bit shocking to see folks without them. Not to discount the 'government shouldn't tell us' line entirely, but it does seem to me that if the local and state government and the surrounding...

    Restoring 650L Side Covers

I'm no expert, so should probably refrain; but I can't help it. In my experience, JB weld and JB Qwik are much more liquid than the underwater stuff you are using.... they more or less self-level. Just my 2cents. Excellent project, bt the way; I'm looking at something similar with my '83...

    Confirmation of Petcock issue?

Thank you all very much; Looks like I have some possibly conflicting avenues to pursue... Neither hose leaked anything overnight... so, other than visible vapor in vacuum line when running, petcock seems exonerated. Still, I'll bypass the vacuum operation for a tank and see if there's a...

    Confirmation of Petcock issue?

Thanks for response... how DC the taps? vacuum shut-off works; no visible fuel coming downfuel hose when in run; suck on vacuum line, fuel starts in fuel line. I'll check overnight with the hoses dangled into some catch-bowls, just in case.... Is the needle seats/O rings a separate issue...

    Confirmation of Petcock issue?

I'm just looking for some validation or redirection here; been reading past threads, and want to make sure I'm not going the wrong way..... Bike is an 83 650L, pretty much all back to stock, other than the bars. 23k miles, new clutch, Intake boots, R/R recently done, either by me or by a local...

    650L alternate tank?

I may be searching wrong, and if so, apologies.. I have an '83 650 L...it's largely stock, but w/ less buckhorn-ish bars. The tank is in no special shape, and in sourcing a replacement, I'd love to put a larger gs tank on in its place to increase range. Has anyone gone through a similar...

    '83 650 gl mileage question

Thanks for the confirmation. Needles are right. (previous owner had put K$N pods on w/o rejetting, which worked about how you'd think. Replaced boots and airboxs/snorkel thingy and filter, sealed manifolds, and (softy that I am) had a local mechanic (and gs specialist) take down the carbs and...

    '83 650 gl mileage question

Hi folks; I have a generally stock '83 gs 650l up in Northwest Washington. (except w/o the horrible original buckhorn bars...) 21,000 Odometer. My question is mileage; I seem to hover at 22-25 MPG consistently. Which seems low..... especially w. the l's little tank. A little background...
