A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wheel bearings install and symptoms and... what are head bearings?

Glad you got it done in the end mate.

Wheel bearings install and symptoms and... what are head bearings?

That's exactly the same situation I had. The dynabolt did not fit well enough inside the inner race to take much of a whack. In the end, I bent the sleeve from one so that I could get some but not all of it in with the other bolt if that makes sense? I got better purchase then but still the bolt...

Wheel bearings install and symptoms and... what are head bearings?

The front end problems you describe could be due to any one (or more) of the causes you mention including brakes, only way to find out is strip it down and investigate. With the wheel out, pull on the fork legs and watch for play in the stem. If it's torqued up correctly and there's play the...

    Beveled valve shims

Others with more engine nouse will be along hopefully but personally I wouldn't worry about the bevel. Only the middle part of the shim is in contact with the cam lobe. I didn't look that closely at those I've used before.

Well done Charlie, glad you got it figured out.

    Beveled valve shims

Not sure about the bevel but make sure they're 29.5mm diameter not 29mm. All the local dealers and tech shops around me only had the 29mm shims and still tried to sell them to me for my bikes. Virtually every other make of machine used the 29mm shims. If they are 29mm, don't use them on your...

    I lost a nut!

Following this to make sure I understand how to do it when my time comes. Seems right to me from what I've read about it but listen to the more experienced among us like Chef and Nessism. Keep the pictures coming though Charlie.

    GS1100GL Stator and R/R

Mr. plwilli says he's reading lead to lead so I believe that'll be through the stator coils. His reading should be real low if the coils are good, can't remember what they should read but not sure about absolutely zero though. Either way, like Chef says, if you have 17v at the battery the R/R...

    I lost a nut!

Blimey Charlie! Hope you got away with it. Think I'll go check mine. If you remember I overhauled the one on my 850 the same day you did yours. Did you put any loctite on it? I put a dab of blue on mine.

Cool, thanks chaps. Old school's coming round here about 10am this morning to do his at the same time. Hopefully they won't take too long ;)

Seal for cam chain tensioner rebuild, Mr. bwringer I need your help!

I ordered all the seals, o-rings, gaskets and springs listed in Mr. bwringers tutorial to rebuild the cam chain tensioner on my 850. Now I have them all in hand and it's pretty obvious one of them does not look like it should even though the part number is the same as that shown on the rebuild...

Athena Gaskets... Garbage or bad batch?

Yep, like bwringer said. Last valve adjust on my 850 I used a vesrah gasket, leaked like a sieve at the front. So I'm with him, vesrah are rubbish. Nothing but OEM for me from now on. I like working on my bikes but not to the point of doing the same job multiple times because of crappy materials.

What have I got to do to get tires

Thanks mate. The tires Suzuki supplied are freely available, I've looked at them before and could have bought them from Dennis Kirk for about half the price. PartShark are going to take them back giving me a full refund including the shipping costs. I really can't fault them, PartShark is a...

What have I got to do to get tires

Update: Amier at PartShark called me today just like he said he would. He hadn't heard anything from Suzuki so he called them to get some story about them having to call Japan to figure out what's going on. Hmm, sounds to me like they couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag, but I'm...
