And here's a couple of pictures of the wheel/GSXR rotors and the custom Cognito Moto steering stops I bought with bonus points from buying the wheel. The unboxing experience really is premium and the wheel comes with soft cloth "showercaps" on both sides for protection. The bolts and steerings...

Well, it isn't christmas without a gift from me (and sometimes my wife) to my motorcycle :) This year it was the nicest gift since the brake master/clutch. Most of the stuff I get for my bike is either pretty cheap to buy, or they're cheap because I make them myself. And to start, the bike...

Got a hold of the PDF and read the first chapter. Pretty math heavy, but good indepth explanations of how a motorcycle behaves. One doesn't have to follow all the calculations to understand the hows and whys. I see the next chapter is about motorcycle tires, and I expect to get som good answers...

I agree, and I'm grateful for the oppurtunity to have this conversation. I was afraid I was missing some important element to the eqation. I've seen some youtube pro-racing instructional videos and read several articles the last couple of days, and my (and others) conclusion is that much of what...

I've read your posts, and lots of others.. I've found out what they're talking about, when they say bikes with too much trail is dangerous in the corners; if the steering is too slow, the front wheel will not follow a natural line around a bend in the road. It will tend to follow a wider arch...

    My first project bike - 1980 GS550

And the part you're showing belong on the rear axle I think. You should go to BikeCliff's Website and download a workshop manual, much easier to see where everything belongs: http://gsarchive.bwringer.com/ Scroll down the page for lots of tips and resources. I would also advise you to sign...

    My first project bike - 1980 GS550

Congratulatulations on having started a project :) Have you taken the footpegs off? On my gs750 the bolt goes through a hole in the footpegs/bracket. When they are off, the bolt is too long. Lars, Norway

Thanks for the info :) Your posts brings up something I'm curous about. Longer trail means more straight line stability, but at the same time people report "too quick" turn in. My guess is that with too much trail, the wheel will react when the bike leans over by wanting to flip over, into the...

As the Covid situation drags out, and I'm busy working overtime at the hospital, I made the decision to buy the Cognitomoto front wheel. This wheel costs more than I paid for the whole bike, but there's no way I'm gonna have time to do all the nessesary modifications to my old front front wheel...

Did a test run with a GoPro mounted to the swingarm to check how the shocks work after rebuild. These are vintage Koni 7610 with the preload set to the lowest out of 3 (twist sleeve) and rebound set to 2 out of 4 (twist dial on top). They're filled with 5W fork oil. The short videoclip is from...

I'm sure you're pretty tired of me posting pictures of safetywire by now, but I recieved the new nuts today. Must have been an older version as they were NOT drilled :( Anyhow, as they do look much nicer than the ones I that are on now, I drilled them myself and put on a couple of nuts to see...

    Norwegian 1979 GS500E restoration.

I measured mine wich is 4,74mm. The manual says they should be 5.0 +/- 0.2mm from the factory. There's not much of an edge to mine. I also have the '79 GS1000 calipers as I was told I needed those when I swapped to spoke wheels. Is was told so because the gs1000 calipers taper on the inside...

Perseverance has turned frustration into joy once more :) I googled around on how to drill bolts and got some tips on drill-speed and pressure on drillbit. I've read before that small drillbits require high speed, but this guy said to use slow speed, max 1100 rpms. Geared mine to the lowest...

Nice work! Do you know the diameter and offset for your front discs? I have a gsx750 1981, and I've heard the ventilated disks are a good upgrade form the unventilated ones. Expecially when they are wet. I have plans for a fork swap on mine and won't be using them after that. I live in Norway...

Well.. I've been drilling some holes and the "corner"-holes on the nuts are a pain to drill. The bolts are OK, I drill them at a 90 degree angle, but the nuts.. I've given up on them. Mostly because I dont have any 2mm drill bits left :/ 3mm drill bits hold well, and I'll use 2,5mm drill bits...

Because I think it will be easier to fit spacers for the new brake rotors if I don't have to take the speedo assembly into consideration. And I already have the parts (the magnetic bolt) :)

On the positive side I've been practicing my safety wiring skills. I don't quite know why I started drilling the corners of the bolts. They are pretty small, and hard to drill in a way that looks nice. Adding to that it looks better when drilled straight through. I redrilled the middle bolt and...

No, it's for a little more modern setup; a 2005 GSXR USD fork with radially mounted calipers. I have a set of original Nissin calipers, but will swap them with R1 monoblock calipers if the ratio is off with the Accossato master. It will look pretty much like this...
