A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Luggage Rack Mounting Points

Interesting. You have a GK that has been de-K'd, there are some of us that have Gs that we have K'd. My example is an 850. I never knew about that triangular thing, I just used a piece of flat stock to hang the lower bracket the proper distance below the frame. I have only seen one other...

Riding & the effect on the mind.

The movie was only "groundbreaking news" to non-motorcyclists. However, I will disagree slightly with one premise. They suggest that riding can be therapy. No doubt on that, but I have also heard that, after an arguement or particularly stressful situation, you should NOT "Go for a ride to...

    Fairing?

If you are looking for something that will deflect the wind blast off your chest an NOT obstruct your vision, check out the National Cycle Street Sheild EX. My son had one on his 650L, it looked and worked great. .

    Multiple (Carburetor?) Problems

I have not seen anyone mention it specifically, but if this IS an '83 550L, it should have the BSW two-barrel carbs. Procedures and o-rings are just a bit different on these. chrisptip, concerning your "third and kind of least important problem", assuming the carburetion and ignition are...

    Long trips anyone?

If you are going to go through the effort of removing and inspecting the R/R, why not just source a GENUINE SH775 and install it? Once you determine a location for it (it's a bit larger than stock), installation is rather quick and easy. .

Side Covers wanted Suzuki GSL model early 80s

Any in particular, or don't you care? I ask because each model had rather unique covers, with the exception of the 850 and 1000. In the case of the 850, year also matters, as the '80/'81 covers were different than the '82/'83. .

Toyota Rav4 only come with hybrid engines in 2026

I have been under the impression that virtually all hybrids have one form or another of a "CVT". As I mentioned earlier, Toyota uses an "eCVT" that does not use belts, chains or pulleys, but uses a sun/ring/planetary gear arrangement to provide seemingly endless ratios. Seems to work rather...

Toyota Rav4 only come with hybrid engines in 2026

Actually, Toyota's "CVT" is a bit different, as it does not use variable pulleys, belts or chains. It has used a planetary/sun/ring gear arrangement since the first Prius models 25 years ago. There are VERY few reports of problems or failures with them. I think Honda uses a similar system...

Toyota Rav4 only come with hybrid engines in 2026

In late March, we got a used RAV4 Hybrid for Mrs. Steve. So far, no problems. This is my first experience with a hybrid, so I was a bit apprehensive, at first. I am still convinced that I am NOT ready for a full-electric vehicle, probably not even ready for the hassle of a plug-in hybrid, but...

    Valve clearance questions

Another vote for the zip-tie method. Also want to add a caution: be careful of your measuring units. You mention that your clearances are "around 0.03", but did not mention the units. I would presume you are using sillymeters. The caution comes if you are using INCHES, because 0.003" would...

    32900-44420 (BB1206) pinout

What year is your 450, and what year is the 'new' ignitor? I don't know about the 450 specifically, but the 650, 850, 1000 and 1100 shafties had different ignitors between '82 and '83, The newer ones had the advance curve bulit into them, the older ones used a swinging weight to provide a...

    Cylinder swap, 79 GS750 to a 81 GS850?

I think the extra bolt did not show up until the '82 850s, and when it did show up, the spacing on the other bolts changed just a bit. Should be no problem mixing the '79 and '81 parts. .

    Carb choke rail lever needed...

Part number 80 is, indeed, not needed (most of the time), but I have seen one instance where it was. The purpose of that part is to keep the clutch cable away from the carb linkage, not neccessarily just the sync adjuster. My son was "execising" his 650 and had the cable get caught, keeping...

    Bike randomly died while riding.

Please do yourself a favor and check your coils. Verify the resistance across the primary terminals is about 3Ω. The only "coil problem" I have had was related to "yellow Accel coils" that were installed by a previous owner. My wife's '82 850L would destroy an igniter about every 2 or 3 years...

    Ditching Air assisted front forks

Why do you feel the need to change the caps? It is very possible (actually, highly recommended) to ditch the air, but be aware that you WILL need some additional spring force. Some have gone the route of Progressive Suspension parts. I have had a bike or three with that setup, but do not...

Ticking Type Sound When Idling and Riding

When you DO get around to checking the clearances, try to adjust them so they are on the larger side of the allowed range. Clearances tighten up over time and mileage, so it's better to start with them loose. .
