A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    bullet wire connectors

I will add to the votes for Vintage Connections and Eastern Beaver. I have used both of them several times and not been disappointed. I also support the crimpers from Vintage Connections. I support them so much that I have two pairs, so I don't have to switch the dies so often. .

Can anyone help tell me a good starting jet for a 79 GSE 550 with air filter pods?

The description of the bike says " '79 550", but all the carb references sound like BS series carbs found on '80-and-up GSes. I'm wondering if it is indeed an '80 bike that was made in late '79? Depending on the location of original sale, it might have been titled as a '79, even though it was...

    Continued Hard Starting Woes

I'll add one more thing that might need to be addressed: when was the last time you adjusted the valves? As they wear, the clearances go tight. There is already precious little clearance, so any decrease starts hanging valves open (when cold), making for hard starts. .

    GS850G petcock options

You can try a rebuild kit, but the success rate on those seems to be about 10-15%. I have purchased more than one from the link that Rich suggested in post #2, all of them have worked well. Personally, I LIKE the vacuum-style petcocks. I never had enough experience with a manual one to get...

Dash Battery Light On All The Time

The battery probe is meant to stick down into one of the cells, which will show a voltage above zero, if it was still wet with acid. When the acid level dropped (in that cell), the probe would not see the voltage and then turn on the light. To get around that, you can connect it to a switched...

Valve oil seals & the rope trick - any detailed guide on disassembly order?

No, ghost or bot, it's me. General health continues to improve after a few "issues" and home renovation is DONE, so there is now time for bikes again. .

Valve oil seals & the rope trick - any detailed guide on disassembly order?

Can't help much with the rope idea, but thought I would give you a "heads-up" in case it doesn't work. You can't just remove the head and replace a head gasket. The process of removing the head will disturb the base gasket, as well, so you will need to remove the cylinders and replace the base...

    850G getting a little TLC

See if you can get a refund on the Real Gaskets. Yeah, they promise to seal every possible kind of leak, but the effort to make that happen is way to high. I tried one, my bike leaked more than before. One of the things that needs to happen is VERY low torque settings on the screws. The...

Trying to change look on 1982 Suzuki Gs450ga

You do realize that after dealing with any title issues, that your GA really is nothing like the E that is pictured? Exactly what part of the "look" are you wanting to change? - The tanks are different, not sure about mounting points. - The engine is different. Well, the pistons and head...

    Color of Final Drive Splines?

Carl, I think you missed a word there. :-k MAXIMUM inflation pressure = 42 psi. However, if your bike is not loaded near the maximum allowable weight, you don't need the MAXIMUM inflation pressure. It's also important to note that "back in the day", the maximum pressure on the tires was about...

    Best cylinder mounting tricks?

Cowboy's method (with a bit of modification) works on a 450 (and other twins). A block with a slot in it will hold one piston up, while you wiggle the other one to get it in its cylinder. Once you have the first one, remove the block and repeat on the other one. Note that the cylinders will...

    Headlight coverage

If you are asking about how well the TruckLite fits, let's just say that it's pretty much a plug-and-play drop-in to replace the stock light. :encouragement: You have to disassemble all the headlight "stuff" that is attached to the chrome trim ring, but it's the same as replacing the stock...

Is the 1980 16 valve GS1100L Hard to Find?

Yes and No. :-k They didn't really "go to the 8-valve" for the rest of the run. You have to look at the rest of the model designation. The "rest" of the Ls were actually GLs, even though the G did not appear on the side cover. With that "G" in the model, it's a shafty. The first shaft-driven...

    '82 GS850G CDI compatability

First of all, you do NOT have a "CDI". No GS ever left the factory with a CDI-type ignition. What you DO have is just a basic ELECTRONIC ignition. The older-style mechanical points are replaced by a box of transistors that do the switching with no moving parts. Now to answer your question...
