A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    front end a bit shaky

If the bars shake when you are decelerating with your hands off the bars it is the steering head bearings. as an ex service Mgr, Ive seen it many, many times. If your bike still has a center stand, its super easy to check and or adjust. Put on center stand, get front wheel off the ground and...

Moto America race or Cafe Racer Magazine's Motorcycle Show?

Sounds like a blast! We used to do the same with the jets at MSP but the safety police stopped all the fun.

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Festival 2018! July 6th 7th 8th!

This sounds like what Brainerd International Raceway was before the fun police got big headed. Sounds like an absolute riot. I'll be retiring in June of 2022. This and Barber sound extremely fun.

    83 1100E oil 0/W 50W synthetic

I believe I read or was told manufacturer's can run tighter tolerances with synthetics due to synthetic oil molecules being all the same "size" as compared to conventional oils which are of many different sizes.

What general/preventative maintenance or checks should I do on a new purchase?

If your looking for more comfort and like what you have now, change the fork oil, others may chime in on a specific weight for best results. A set of Race Tech fork springs and a fork oil change will feel wonderful. If your looking at shocks buy good decent (yes, slightly expensive) shocks...

    200hp Katana project with pics

Wish the new one looked like this also, like Kawasaki did with the RS900. Just riding this would be like Viagra...

    Front master cylinder replacement

Most used master cyl's have had poor service and the bores get wore outand are not worth rebuilding. Get a fairly modern, less than 5 year old m/c with low miles or get a new one from Z1. Smaller bore sizes (1/2")tend to have a better feel. Went through this with my ZRX. Naked bikes have fairly...

    1983 GS1100E rebuild advice please

I believe there is a relay type mod for the starter. It helps the starter clutch. I'm not good at searching but someone will chime in.

    78 GS1000 suspension upgrades

I used a 1100E Front end with Race Tech internals, professionally done. 1100E swingarm, lighter, stronger and easy to find. Rebuilt my old Fox shocks. Salty Monk brakes. Bike is much better than when I raced it 30 years ago! The Race Tech front end on our lousy Mn roads is sweet. 1100 forks and...

    Suzuki GS1000e/s/gs1100/gsx1100 project...

You'll love what the 18" front does for turning! You mentioned emulators being used in the front end. What shocks are you using in the rear? There are many video's of adventure touring people using sealants and a type of 3M tape to get rid of the inner tubes on spoked wheels. I am going to try...

    Cam Degreeing or not

One could assume that differences in cam timing is one of the reasons 2 of the same model bikes are faster or slower than each other.

Welded crankshaft..to be or not to be, that is the question.

82 1000 Katana's also had welded cranks. Its kinda like buying an extended warranty. They suck until the day you need it. With the amount of work you are doing to your motor it would be nice to never have to worry.

    GS1100G_anybody made rearsets?

I used a Hyabusa set. Lots of them on E-Bay. Link where it goes onto shift shaft is proper. Plenty of room on the right side for brake master cyl. Make your own plates. My plates are tacky, crude garage style but work. Kinda like me...

    Total loss ignition

Thank you for the correction. I've been away for awhile and got a little excited that I may even have a good tip. I seen a post from Rapid Ray too. Good to hear from him.

    New to me 1980 GS450S

If it will only run on choke it is broke. Ethanol gas takes about 8 weeks of sitting before it starts to affect idle and starting circuits. Fix it right and keep that crap out of there!

    Total loss ignition

The stator and rotor weigh well over a pound. Std GS1100 rotor is 5.2 lbs and a Kat rotor weighs 4.65. It's also weight off of the crankshaft that the motor does not have to turn. Rev's quicker? Its why Kat rotor's are lighter. On a fully charged battery with a total loss system (stator and...

    Eastern US Mountain Riding Adventures!

Was in the Waynesville area a week before memorial weekend. Due to covid we had that whole area to ourselves. Absolutely the best riding I've ever experienced and we running off of DeLorme paper maps. A tropical storm that rolled up from the gulf that kept circling chased us out. Had the BRP to...
