A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Drag Bars on 1985 GS1150E?

Only picture I have, but here's what it will look like with a set of Vortex. Had to make a short master cylinder brake hose, trim the triple clamp cover, and swap all the cables to opposite side of the frame. At full left lock the choke lever is about 1/4" from the tank. Would like to be...

    Oil cooler from GS1150E on a GS1100E.

Did some measuring last time I had the filter cover off (1150) in case you want to try modifying yours.

    High temp thread lockers??

Mr Hahn, Studs can snap off just like bolts. And after you've super duty loctited them in place....you're right back where you started. Installing studs is a good idea....bonding them in place is not. Hi-temp anti sieze is your friend. And as a side note: If installed correctly, the studs...

valve adj 84 1150 what a pain in the a*&

He's referring to the fairing support. It hangs down just far enough to be in the way. A couple of small zip ties around the crossbars on the V.C. to help hold the gasket in place makes it a little easier also.

    I can't see why...

"I sent the carbs away to have re-measured and aligned. " Need to find out who his carb remeasuring and an alignment guy is. Mines revving a little to the left.

Whats the official first year of the GS 1150?

According to Ian Smith Information Motorcycle Report: "1984 1150s sold in California were all brought in before Jan. 1 and declared as 1983 models".

    Steering head??

You're correct about the added weight of the front end when assembled. May or may not completely disappear, but the bearings should still be replaced.

    Look what happened here

"I have seen mention of this a few times now. Is the reason to not mix parts from another head because of GD&T or is there another reason? You could potentially install an out of tolerance part in your engine if you are not careful." The possibility of an out of tolerance part is there...

    1166 engine head gasket saga

Wanna take a wild guess how I've made a living for 20+ yrs? Surface finish and flatness are NOT measured the same way nor do they mean the same thing.

Fire shooting from exhaust when idling?

Check that your exhaust flanges are tight, or could be a bad gasket causing an air leak.

    GS1150E big bore kit

Would anyone happen to know if there are any other (1150) 1230 12.5-1 piston kits beside MTC? So far haven't been able to find any other off-the-shelf sets available. Don't need or want any custom made. And for the record, don't have anything against MTC...have always treated me right....just...

    Spark Plug Caps

There are (2) 24" lengths. Have used a lot of these and never came up short. MAW sells them for 17.95 (their listing says 2 wires, each 48"...but that isn't correct) http://www.mawonline.com/newsite/dyna-spark_plug_wires.htm

    what kind of torque wrench?

Save your $ and buy a Craftsman. The H.F. wrenches are junk. The clicker type feel like there is gravel inside the handle. And I would be shocked if they would come close to calibrating correctly. Very poor quality.

    Cheap GS1100 16V oil coolers

Had a chrome shop strip it. The coating guy told me that it's better (and a lot easier) than trying to blast because of all the nooks and crannys. The coating will not adhere to chrome at all...or not for very long.

    Cheap GS1100 16V oil coolers

The ceramic coating helps keep the heat in the pipe. Doesn't radiate quite as much heat back to the motor. Not so much an issue moving at highway speed, but will help a little in stop and go traffic. A side bonus is that it can also improve performance due to better exhaust scavenging. Had mine...
