A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Which head gasket to use...the continuing controversy

Have used several of the Cometics included in Wiseco kits...never had any leaks or failures. But, every one that I've taken apart after a year or so, the head and cylinder surfaces have small patches of very slight etching/pitting. Was told it's because of a reaction between the aluminum and...

    Base Gasket changeout?

In the "for what it's worth dept". I've had the head off the dragbike 3 times in the last few years, and have yet to change the base gasket. Has never leaked a drop of oil. If there was no evidence the bottom end needed attention, I would slap a new head gasket on and haul A$$. Releasing the...

    Base Gasket changeout?

If it's not leaking now, and you don't unseat the cylinder when you remove the head....should be no need to change it.

    regarding aluminum foil

Steel wool will scratch chrome, the aluminum foil won't. I believe this method is intended for very light surface rust on chrome finishes. Heavily pitted rust will chew up the foil. Also, buffing the part with wax after the foil trick will help keep the rusting at bay.

    Tying down a 1979 GS1000S

Unless you can support both wheels in a clamp, isn't any point on a bike with front and rear suspension a "sprung point"?? You can tie a car down by it's axles, but it's not going to fall over as a bike will. But what do I know, let the COU experts GH give the advice.

    Tying down a 1979 GS1000S

Good reason to FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. And if some nimrod tightened it down enough to bend the handlebars (if that actually happened), probably the type that could screw it up no matter what method used.

    Tying down a 1979 GS1000S

Can't happen, it doesn't pull on the grip in such a way that it could slip off. It's basically 2 individual strap/sleeves that are crisscrossed together. Slide the sleeves over grips and pull on looped end of the straps which draw the sleeves inward. Left end of the strap pulls the right sleeve...

    Tying down a 1979 GS1000S

If there's enough fairing clearance, you may be able to use soft ties looped around the fork tube just above the lower triple clamp. Be careful not to pinch brake lines and that nothing rubs against the fairing which could cut the tie downs and/or damage the fairing. Another option is a Canyon...

    torque wrench calibration

I've noticed that no one is checking the torque RANGE. Just because a wrench checks good at 10 lbs. doesn't mean it's correct at 50. Had a name brand clicker type wrench several yrs ago that checked spot on at lower ft. lb. increments, but would get progressively worse at higher torque settings...
