    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Removing tail piece GS1000G?

Three 10mm that you'll find beneath the fender. Feel around up in there and you'll find them.

Cold start problem- only bump start when cold

Borderline ignition wiring is the only thing that makes sense to me. The starter is pulling your available voltage below what your ignition needs to produce a strong enough spark to light things up. A bump-start doesn't influence available voltage, and it starts. A meter across your coils...

Might depend on whether FIB's are welcome -- with a proper security deposit, of course.

Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway -- opinions? Traffic?

Preparing for a Friday a.m. blastoff. The gem in the title is sort of on the way back home for me; anyone ever ride this? Is it worth the time & the $15 admission fee to Custer State Park? I'm not sure I have the time budget for heavy traffic, but some firsthand feedback would come in handy...

If all the V-Stroms looked this good...

I might be forced to pick one up. Look at this thing: (It's a CL ad from Peoria, IL a bit to my south). I'm not even sure how that price compares to similar Stroms, but here's the problem: My beloved Honda Nighthawk in my sig is on its way out of my life. Sad day; I bought it for $600...

    Cruise control / throttle assist

Hmm, that's odd; I don't have any of those problems. I just select 'Cruise On' and set the speed. From there, just toggle accel/decel as desired.

Old School riding video (how to)

The guy actually was 'the real thing' in the years before he became a self-promotion machine. I remember watching a Knievel special where he had some car mocked up to look like a top fuel dragster, but it was massively counterweighted rearward so that the slightest bit of throttle would pull...

Old School riding video (how to)

What a cool old video! One thing I have to disagree with, though, in the text: Evel Knievel rivals Steve McQueen as one of the ultimate kings of motorcycle cool. Sorry, but Evel Knievel was never in McQueen's league. Ever. Motorcycle cool or any other category of cool.

    Intake O-Ring Fitment?

I'm really glad you didn't get that from me... it should be a 40mm inside diameter, and no, it shouldn't shrink over time. That O-ring is almost certainly a 38mm. What was the part number on the OEM package?

I wouldn't be surprised if this is responsible for many mysterious float problems. Is that an original gasket on the left, or was that trimmed?

    Clutch cable broke

Use a digital camera and photograph every length of the cable routing before you remove the old cable. Reference these photos when you're installing the new one. I see misrouted cables all the time, and it's just an amazingly simple way of screwing up the clutch feel and operation, and cable life.

1st generation AUTO cancel TSCU "banging the bits"

You know, one possibility that occurred to me was -- eliminate the whole ignition interference problem by running with a simple bicycle-computer style reed switch on the rear wheel somewhere, like alongside the brake rotor. It works great with $10 bike computers...

My other bike and future project

Those Scotchloks are gremlins, and it looks like they've reproduced wildly. Each and every one of them is waiting for an opportunity to **** you off and set you up for a long walk. Here's one source for goodies: http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec__Products/Connectors/connectors.html...

Brake cable? Are you sure? It would be a very rare part indeed.
