    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thoughts about the website in general

Let me throw another wrinkle into this for you, Frank. I am seeing IP, Edit, Quote, and Flag, but not Comment and Set as Answer. My admin is giving different options from your admin, both of which are different from what the regular account is seeing. But maybe not a problem we need to risk...

    RIP Rob and Michelle Reiner

Among the tributes I have read I thought this best captured his work. "As a film-maker, Rob Reiner championed humour, civility and intelligence – qualities you suppose would be out of step with the Hollywood of the 1980s where he made his name,........" From everything I have seen, read...

    RIP Rob and Michelle Reiner

I have deleted any posts with reference to the unfortunate public statements on this tragedy by a certain high office holder. Another member has started a thread in Vortex where that issue can be rightly addressed. This thread is not about that guy. This thread belongs to Rob Reiner, his...

    Temu is B.S.

We have been blessed with two multi-post spammers in a twelve hour period. I think I got them all taken down but please flag if you find more. I am not sure what is going on but I will definitely need help catching them all if this keeps up.

New (to me) bike in the garage

Happy Birthday, Trevor. Was this just one of the perks of living in a place that requires vintage bike ownership for residency? :) I'll say. One of those rim$ costs more than I paid for any of the bikes I currently own. Congratulations on the bike but even moreso on the good fortune of fellow...

    The American Revolution

Nova, the PBS science series, aired a great show last night on the weaponry of the Revolutionary War--muskets, long rifles, cannon, tomahawk. There was even a submarine. Interesting comparison of the musket to a modern rifle--velocity, accuracy, damage. You can view it at this link but here...

    The American Revolution

The above exchange is to me a great illustration of how things have changed since the airing of The Civil War 35 years ago. The rise of streaming has served the decline of shared experience in our country and, well, everywhere. Back in 1990 almost everyone watched each episode all at the...

    The American Revolution

Another great episode. So far the thing of which I have the most increased awareness is how much this was a civil war--in many ways more of a civil war at the human level than was the civil war.that kicked off fourscore and four years later. The latter was predominantly one region of the...

    The American Revolution

Ed and I don't always share the same opinion, but this post could easily have been written by me, word for word. I have fiber optic internet but only antenna TV which I watch sparingly. And when I do it is almost exclusively PBS--documentaries and science programs primarily (though British...

    The American Revolution

For any of you who have not already heard about it, Ken Burns is presenting The American Revolution on PBS in a multipart series starting one week from today, Sunday, November 16th. I think most of us are old enough to remember how transfixed the whole country was by The Civil War series that...

    Walking (not so) Tall

I think most of us remember Walking Tall movie franchise from back in the 70;s extolling the virulence and virtue of Sheriff Buford Pusser as he cleaned up crime in a small southern town-- a hero and legend who lost his wife in a hail of bullets into his car from bad guys one evening out on a...

    Cybertruck

My impression of the cybertruck is that it seems to answer a lot of questions that nobody asked. None of today's monstrously oversized pickups, EV or ICE, would be of interest to me. If I were a contractor or sub in the building trades, however, I might well be considering the F150...

A true legend has gone RIP Hulk Hogan

I am having trouble with my internet connection. Apparently a new cable will have to be run to my house. My access is likely to be intermittent until then, I have edited this thread to bring it in line with the norms we have for Campfire posts. Note that it still contains lots of less than...
