A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    1982 GS1100gl project

Well Im going to wrap this project up. I have been breaking the bike in on two recent rides. The first ride I had a minor problem. I forgot to install the spring on the idle screw and it vibrated inward causing my RPM to increase to 3,000 at a stop. Also when I was syncing the carbs I could not...

    1982 GS1100gl project

Here is something I forgot to mention. My fuel sender unit was leaking so I figured a repair. First off the sender was not working properly. I needed to clean the wiper which varies the ohms as the float raises. The wire to the float is just staked and had worked loose. I took a brass bolt and...

    1982 GS550 stator problem

When I was correcting my wire harness I noted that bypass and thought what the hell. Why would they bring one phase up to a plug by the headstock and then back down. That cant be good. So now I have the reg/rec as mentioned with all 3 leads from the alternator going directly to the reg/rec...

    1982 GS1100gl project

I have completed the wiring for the bike with the addition of a new regulator/rectifier unit. Also got the cables sorted. I am using handlebars from a Yamaha XJ550 so I had to figure out which cables I could run. The std GS1100GL cables would one to long so I tried cables for the GS1100E which...

    1982 GS1100gl project

Its been a few weeks. I was busy finishing my 75 Z1900. I also did a 4700 mile ride to Alabama-Tennesee. Right before I left I did receive my rear guide. The guide is made from virgin PTFE I believe. I didn't want to put the old and cracking stock one back in and the OEM units were no wear...

    powder coating

Hi Rob I remember you saying that on the Z1 form. I may have to try the Simoniz/Sperex. Cant get it in the US but it looks like Amazon has it and can ship overseas. I have used PJ1 on several projects lately (last year or so)and have not had any issues.Maybe they worked on the problems. The Z1...

    final drive wear?

Yes that is an option. I was looking on Ebay but couldn't tell exactly how much wear there was by the photo so opted not to take the chance. I did however buy two very good condition final drives for $15.

    powder coating

You may want to consider VaporBlasting on you engine and leaving it bare aluminum. The finish is superb and you don't need to worry about the paint. Here is my 73 Z1900 with PJ1 paint and the RD350 and my CB550 with VaporBlasted cases, cylinders, head

    powder coating

I have restored many bikes and always use powdercoat on frames swingarm and all the bits and pieces that go on the frame. As far as the engine is concerned I would stay away from powder coat. On my engines I use PJ1 Fastblack satin which has held up great over the years. I have also used powder...

    final drive wear?

You really need to keep those lubricated with moly paste. I use a Honda Moly Paste. You need to pull it off your wheel to see that pattern. A quick look and you could be fooled.

    final drive wear?

Ya I would be concerned. Here is my 82 GS1100GL drive. Same part 64680-45113 $179 through Partzilla. I found one for $129 in Israel of all places. In fact I have ordered a few parts from Israel at good prices. I ended up buying two spare rear drives(final drive) also since those gears are no...
