A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Pilot Needle jets......

There were 2 different types, as Greg said earlier, and you've posted pictures of both. If you had your bike running properly before with those fitted it will run properly again if you refit them and replace the u/s one like for like.

    Frame damage

I agree. That's had quite a thump to end up like that so as well as getting repaired if it were my bike I'd get it checked to see if the frame has been whacked out of straight.

    ?82 GS750T-starting trouble

Sounds like the choke pick up tubes are blocked, or the little hole in the float bowl.

    Carb colours.

Wilko BBQ paint is a pretty good match. The downside is you need to bake it on for petrol resistance and even then it's not 100% but does toughen up with age. It's also very slow drying at room temperature - about a day till you can handle sprayed parts.

    Norwegian 1979 GS500E restoration.

They are the same dimensions as on your 550. The only difference is the vent holes.

    Norwegian 1979 GS500E restoration.

The discs plug straight in - my 550 is wearing the set donated from a GSX750. Your 550 calipers will work fine but those off the 750 won't plug and play because of the offset due to the clearing axle on the 750.

Best substance to clean tarnish off carb insides

Cellulose thinners will shift it no problem and you can still get a can easy enough. No 3, left to right, looks like the cutaway is skewed?

UK GS1000 owners Rotella t40 alternative

I've used Castrol GTX diesel for a good few years now, in all my bikes. Works fine. There might be better / cheaper / more expensive out there but it's seen my bikes ok.

    GS550 oil window

You can do either. Clean the inside with a cotton bud soaked in petrol or fit a new one - cost less than a tenner.

    Spade/bullet connectors

OEM is 3.9mm and I've always used the plain bullets and never had a problem.

Just checking that you did connect the choke cable?

Are my Brake Pistons still viable

Nick Chambers, also UK, is the cheapest I've found. Excellent quality and good guy to deal with https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-gsx1100-gsx1000-gs550-stainless-brake-caliper-pistons-Aisin-calipers/264354397635?hash=item3d8cbffdc3:g:uUcAAOSwJNpc-9N6

Are my Brake Pistons still viable

Those pistons are junk I'm afraid. See if you can find stainless steel replacements - they'll last forever and are cheaper, usually, than OEM.

    Identifying forks, gsx750 or gs550?

140mm is kind of a rule of thumb value that I've used for years and I've seen others tote it around. I can't remember who told me but it seems to work.

    Identifying forks, gsx750 or gs550?

Like this one? https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/suzu/suzuki_gs750ez%2082.htm They had those type of forks. Good luck with trying to find out the fork oil capacity. I couldn't find it for my 1982 550ez and just plumped for the standard 140 mm level, forks fully compressed with no springs...

What year 750 have you got?

Quick question on fuel sending unit please

For a hose to take petrol away from the top of a hot engine if the sender ever sprang a leak. Longish hose draped over the back of the engine. Loads of bikes missing that hose for decades and I've never heard of a leak but there's always a first.

    1980 GS1000ET back from the dead.....I hope.

Possibly the pin that hold the float on is very slightly bent and the float is jammed down. Not uncommon. Only way to get is to remove the pin and roll it on a dead flat surface and watch carefully.

Can I Use Hydraulic Lift on GS?

I've got one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorbike-jack-scissor-lift-paddock-stand-red-incl-rubber-pad/282740087487?hash=item41d49f5abf:g:3xAAAOSw43haEbat Works well. Handy when there's no centre stand and where the point of balance is against you when changing a wheel. Plenty around...
