A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Looking at a 2007 GSF1250S

Very good and under rated bike, which to me means good bang for the buck! Big bores never get old until you do. I mod everything, and these respond very well to minor mods.

    Chain tool to avoid

Grind it off at the rear sprocket while in gear. Hook up the new chain, put in neatral and pull it through as explained in this post. When its in gear it wont spin and lose the chain. Nice to know about the one turn method when using the flairing tool. I wondered about that myself. Before I...

Irish Road Racing, Cookstown, Tandragee, NW 200, TT

I would love to go to the IOM, but I figure to do it without a "tour guide" it would be tough for a first timer. So I put the NW200 on my bucket list. Dont know my geography, but as long as your in that neck of the woods how about this? Not trying to hijack the thread...Thanks for the great posts!

    Honda 87 CBR600F Hurricane, project

When introduced in 87? they just killed the ranks in road racing, 600 production class, the fast guys could do some damage in the 750 class. They still make a great track day bike. A person I meet at a local track day buys every one he can get, keeps his track day bike going and E-bay's the...

Added to the GS family again!

I always thought it would be fun to Mod-stock a FT-500. No disrespect intended towards your bike. Neighbor had the v-twin version and it looked great! Nice sound!

Excellent choice for vintage racing IMO

Would that be up against KZ650's? What other models can be run? I ran against some KZ's back in the day that would bump up to the 750 class and they could be made to be very competitive and were bullet proof. Part of the fun of vintage racing, for me anyways, is they still look fairly stock. The...

    GS1100E carb. cleaning with Seafoam

If your carbs need cleaning, nothing that can be added to gas will clean it. These bikes are approaching 40 years old, and need some love in certain area's. There is no easy way around a carb job.

    VIN vs Engine Numbers?

Older (80's-90') Yamaha's had matching vin/eng numbers. Last 7 digits I believe. Not sure if they still do. There is a commonality of Suzuki parts for economic reasons. My older (95) Triumph has parts shared with other bikes and brands. I would assume common parts they use are being made by...

Who has used Por-15 engine paint?

The Container say's its good to 350 degree's so I think it would be good on an air cooled. Upon reading up on it, once the can has been opened the shelf life after opening is 6 mo or less. Stuff is spendy so I would like to have enough painting to use up the can. Sounds like you had good luck...

Sins of the PO and reflections of a newb carb rebuilder of a BS32ss 1980 gs850gl

All good. I was a service manager at a 5 brand major metropolitan dealership from 1980-1999. I had brilliant tech's working for me. I've seen more issues that could be dreamed up here. I was not a working service Mgr, just a back yard wrench with good people and organizational skills, but...

Who has used Por-15 engine paint?

Going to paint a couple engine covers with Por-15 engine paint. Point cover is prepped with scotch brite and surface is uniform. The other is a oil pan(Triumph) that was purchased on E-bay. Originally black but looks terrible. I can media blast this at work and surface will be perfect. This is a...

Sins of the PO and reflections of a newb carb rebuilder of a BS32ss 1980 gs850gl

To me, that is the learning curve. Let someone who will return it to me perfect, while I work on something that I am able to repair perfectly so I can enjoy the ride. Of course if you enjoy puttzing with it and the challenge of doing it yourself I am envious, but at my age, its easier and better...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Its been to long since my Tiger so its hard to tell. Has plenty of leg room though. Fueling is spot on and has lots of bottom end. Roads are full of sand so its tough to get a feel for power, havent even had it over 6500 rpms yet. Tiger suspensions are sweet as sugar and when I get a little...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Pic is from last week, but have been riding the new to me '15 1000 Versys. Getting used to it along with my surgically repaired right hand. With sand on the roads from winter I was playing with the anti-fun buttons. Full power and full traction control is interesting. I'll give a ride report...

Engine mounting bolt and shock bolt issues

Look on the microfisch for the proper bolt length on the motor mount. if wrong one gets used it can bottom out on engine case and puncture the case. Look also at shock mounts for proper washer spacing on shocks

    Pre-Sturgis Week

Last time I went was 2010. We had 3 people, 3 bikes and 3 small tents. Changed campgrounds everyday. We were on the road with breakfast in us by 8am and the crowds were very tolerable. We parked for the day by 2-3 for lunch when the roads got crowded and the temps went up. They always found room...
