A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    80 GS750, Won't start. Where do I start?!

I feel like dumb*** for not even thinking about that one, lol

    80 GS750, Won't start. Where do I start?!

Is your starter any good? Can you put power directly to it and make it spin? Maybe the starter relay has stuck after sitting for a decade? Again, try putting power to it, and see if you can make it click.

A Brake bleeding procedure I used today

I could see buying a pair of vibrators and a syringe becoming a bit awkward. Throw in some night time cough syrup, and you're sure to raise some eyebrows.

A Brake bleeding procedure I used today

I've always been a big fan of multi-purpose tools. ;)

    Idle Wierdness &/or Trottle Sticking???

If I remember correctly, the 1/4" IS too big. It will 'work', but it won't be 'right'. The correct size is metric, but I can't recall what it is off the top of my head. Perhaps someone with more than 200 posts will chime in with the correct size. (I tried to search for it, but for...

    Idle Wierdness &/or Trottle Sticking???

Lol, my post count is no reflection of my mechanical ability or experience. And I do believe that, in almost every case, that the o-rings need to be (or at least SHOULD be) replaced. However, what he described is almost exactly the issue I just resolved on my 1100, and was a quicker...

    Idle Wierdness &/or Trottle Sticking???

Your problem doesn't sound like it's carb boots at all. Seems like if the wheel falls off of a GS, the first thing someone is going to do is blame your carb boot o-rings... Disconnect the throttle cable from the carb, and hold / pull gently on that end of the cable as you roll the throttle on...

Non GS won't start. Got me stumped.

Almost sounds like a timing issue...I don't know anything about 2-strokes, and very little about points ignitions, but is it possible that something timing-related got taken out in the meltdown? Condenser, perhaps?

    Strange 'fix'?

I've been messing with the carbs on the 1100 since I got it, but could never quite get the bike to feel the way it should. I've figured that I just didn't have them dialed in and sync'd right, and since I don't have a manometer yet, I've just been riding it as-is for now. Over the last week...

    Kick-start retrofit on 1980 GS550..

I'm not following...didn't see anything in the link that talked about a kickstart retrofit?

    Kick-start retrofit on 1980 GS550..

Nope, not at all. I can visualize what you're talking about but if you've got a pic of it, then by all means, shoot it or a link to me!

    Kick-start retrofit on 1980 GS550..

When I get the time to tear it off, I'll check that for sure. Thanks!

    Kick-start retrofit on 1980 GS550..

Interesting. I do see that you specifically mentioned an '80, but does anyone know if this will work on an '81 550L?

    GS1100GL Project

Beautiful. That's all that needs to be said. Pretty much made up my mind on where I'm going with my 1100! THANKS for the pics and writeup.

    Tscu rebuilding

I think I left my old non-functioning POS there...if you throw it in that box 'o stuff, I'll take it apart and see if I can reverse-engineer it.

    GS550 1980 carburetor

That's true, both the 550 and 750 came with BS32SS carbs. The only difference was the jetting, and I believe the rack they mount to. Which body do you need?

    GS1100GL Project

Love the concept! I had a couple different ideas on a 'temp' secondary seat, but I'm not sure that I've considered this idea before. Thanks for posting it!

    Backpressure is a myth???

The idea is for exhaust gas to flow away from the port, at all RPMs, as quickly as possible. Backpressure does absolutely nothing to increase exhaust gas velocity...only heat, wall friction, and pipe diameter can.

    Backpressure is a myth???

I usually keep my mouth shut on things like this because they always end up being long-winded internet arguments (ie., 'Will the plane fly'?). The truth is, I've never understood how backpressure could possibly 'help' anything, with the exception of some scavenging advantages in a narrow set of...

    79 850G, sounds like popcorn

Dyna's site only lists the DS3-2 for 850's. They do list differnt #'s for the 77-78 550/750, the DS3-1 for the KD design, and the DS3-2 for the ND.
