DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Symphony of destruction

The join/transition on mine was smooth with the 31mm inserts fitted - they had an internal taper from the join to the end. You should (if your ID=33mm) just be able to buy some new 33mm inserts - I guess from Sudco. ...Just checked, and it looks like it. They call them mount adaptors, but when...

    Symphony of destruction

One thing you could check - unscrew the front (spigot? tube? - Keihin call it a 'mount adaptor' in the FCR book), and measure the inside (venturi) diameter of the carb. If it measures up to 33mm, then you can upgrade your carbs to 33's for a relatively small cost - and 33's will work better on...

    Symphony of destruction

Yeah, that's the problem with two strokes. The RD350's were quite notorious for it... Too lean will do the same thing too. Blown base gaskets can also cause nasty things to happen... DAMHIK. A couple of hints - My 33's started off as 31's, with 31mm inserts fitted (the CR's have a replaceable...

    Symphony of destruction

YEAH! Ditch the CV's! I had Keihin CR specials on mine pretty much all it's life - and only killed a piston once, when I had tweaked the timing a little too much, and at 240kph chasing an FZR1000 and a couple of GSXR11's, it gave up the ghost with a long plume of smoke... Melted a hole through...

    Ignition switch doesn't turn off...

Fixed! Fixed! I pulled the switch off and checked it - OK - then I lifted the tank and pulled the switch harness plug apart - still no change. So switch and harness were OK. In the course of disconnecting various relays and sub-circuits in an effort to find the one that cleared the problem, I...

    Ignition switch doesn't turn off...

Yep - or there's a short in the wiring. I've found a spot where the harness from the switch has been pinched badly, so I'll pull the whole switch off, and see how much of it I can get apart. Got a silly (~NZ$500 !!) price from Suzuki for a new switch, so I may as well try and fix it first...

    Ignition switch doesn't turn off...

...on my wifes Bandit 1200S! It WAS working, but now... It locks and unlocks the steering Ok, goes 'click click' and rotates through the appropriate positions - but it won't turn off! :confused:Had to disconnect the battery in the finish. I know it's not a GS - but it's got a GS (GSF1200) in...

    slipping screwdriver

I think you're talking about 'Phillips' and 'Posidrive'? I think you're talking about 'Phillips' and 'Posidrive'? An explanation - copied from a fasteners FAQ... Cross head screws. These come in two varieties, Phillips and Posidrive. The differences lie in the way that the drivers are...

Wrecked my GS on the freeway today... I'm OK!

Many sympathies for the crash. Glad you and your buddy survived OK. A suggestion from one who has hit the ground once or twice over the years  - get to a drugstore (chemist/pharmacy) or natural health type place and get yourself some 'Arnica' cream. Slather on liberally anywhere...

misunderstanding, ripoff or am I just thick.

Fair enough. I can see how it's all happened...:wink:

misunderstanding, ripoff or am I just thick.

Boy have you two got yerselves in a twist! :-D Having done the odd mod myself - I can see where BOTH of you are coming from! Katman is to be applauded for having the integrity to NOT risk stuffing someone else's engine - and I have to say that I probably wouldn't have installed the cams either...

    No petrol coming through??

 The idea of 'balancing' the carbs is NOT a visual/mechanical measurement! It's to do with balancing the amount of vacuum in the inlet manifold (between the carb and the cylinder) against each of the other cylinders - so ALL are the same. The primary reason is to do with adjusting the...

    Steering Head Race removal tool

Yeah. Sometimes, the fastest way to get something done, is the way that you've done it before (if it worked that time!)... Sort of like finding your way on the road. :-D Oddly enough - I had easier access to an arc welder than a grinder and decent vice the first time I did my steering head...

    Steering Head Race removal tool

Kiwis (NZ'ers) tend to be quite good at doing things without the proper tools or parts... It's the end result of being so far from the rest of the world - equipment often arrives without either the proper tool or the proper parts to maintain or repair it, so we tend to be quite good at finding...

    plugs lean/rich 82 650g

Try these guys: http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&categoryId=34588&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15012&top_category=10004 IMO, MUCH better than the Clymer books (I have both). Should take less than 2 weeks to arrive - well, that's...

    Tires and possable fork brace?

Make sure your rear wheel is straight in the swingarm! My GSX used to do that too - at around 180kph... I found that measuring the wheel rim to swingarm distances, so they were set evenly, cured it! Warning: YMMV! Top speed with it setup like this was with the speedo needle against the stops -...

    Steering Head Race removal tool

Speaking of different ways to skin a cat... Another method (that I've used a few times now) that works well - Get a hold of a 'stick' type arc welder, and some general welding rods. Run a bead of weld around the inside of the bearing race that you want to remove (ALL the way!), being careful NOT...

    1150 carbs on an 1100

Hi there mac1170 - nice selection of rides (I assume you have a McIntosh also?)! A question or two for you - I tried running the standard airbox (with K&N filter) on my old GSX11 - similar specs to yours, but WAY non-standard cams (much more lift and duration than some Yoshi Stage II's I had...

installation tips on putting 18" GSXR wheels on a '78 GS1000

Thought that might be the case. :( ...just been looking at what IS available in 18" sizes - bugger all these days! Though Michelin do a Pilot Road that's a 160 - but that's going to be a tight fit, as I had to squash the rear caliper stay arm to fit the old 150/? x18 M59x that's on it at the...

installation tips on putting 18" GSXR wheels on a '78 GS1000

18" wheels 18" wheels Can't help you with the spacer problems - BUT I have been running 18" wheels on my old GSX for years (even before it got stored) - though mine were spoked rims (Akront and Borrani), laced up to early GS(2v)750 spoked hubs, with 2.5" front rim width, and 3.5" rear. Bolted...
