All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Perhaps the most convoluted oil change I've ever done (KTM)

Good luck with your bike! I've read way too much about various KTM bike engine failures to be comfortable buying a KTM. The LC8 engines are particularly prone. KTM seems to push power to the max, but there is a downside to that approach. Hopefully, the singles are better than the parallel twins.

Can't tell from this photo. 1) set crank position to 1-4 T position. This is TDC for cylinders 1 & 4 2) set exhaust cam so that the -- mark by #1 is parallel to the gasket surface. Error on the side of the marking pointing slightly high, not down, because as the chain wears, the mark will...

    Cheap, but good, derusting sauce

I've been to quite a few large industrial painting shops, many doing powder coat, and you will NEVER find any of them using muriatic acid. Most use phosphoric acid, which is much milder. Paint supply manufacturers sell prep solutions, which are typically phosphoric acid. And so it goes...with...

    Cheap, but good, derusting sauce

The main active ingredient of this sauce is citric acid. There are only two ingredients, both available on Amazon for cheap. The main problem with acid is that it will eat the rust, and also eat the metal. Much more so when using something strong like HCl/muriatic acid. This formula is good on...

    Cheap, but good, derusting sauce

This seems like good stuff. More mild than many other derusting methods, and cheap. 1 liter of water 100 grams of citric acid (available on Amazon) One of the following: 40 grams sodium carbonate (washing soda), or 63 grams sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), or 30 grams sodium hydroxide (lye)...

Disassembly of '79 GS850G front master cylinder

If you decide to move on, the Kawasaki Ninja EX650 master cylinder is a nice piece. Get the rectangular reservoir version, with a mirror lug. They are 5/8" bore, same as the stock Suzuki master for dual disc bikes. https://www.ebay.com/itm/187591954737 P1010741 by nessism, on Flickr

Remove the screws inside the reservoir, then the reservoir should come off. If it doesn't, there is likely corrosion in the O-ring groove.

    Making seat foams

I used to work at a place that made, among other products, aircraft crew seats. All the cushions were made from shaved foam, various densities, glued together, just like you mention. If building a new seat, that's how I'd go about it. Getting the contour to the pan just right wouldn't be...

    Fuel tank issue

The 1980-1981 GS750E and GS1100E tanks are a direct bolt on for the earlier GS1000 bikes. This interchange is one of the few that are viable within the GS family of bikes, without welding. As chuck mentioned, if the rust isn't too bad, you can spot repair, derust, then line the tank with a...

    1985 Kawasaki GPz750 needs refresh

Hum. The 550's are known for rod knock, but not the 650/750. Are you sure? The clutch basket is known to develop lash, fix as shown in my build thread (installing new rubber cush bumpers). Also, the secondary shaft drive sprocket has rubber bushing that develop lash. Hope the problem isn't...
