A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    changing chain and spockets

Well, between here and Jeff Saunders, I thought I had it. Put the new rear sprocket on, but the wheel on, looped the chain over the sprockets and had my wife stand on the rear brake...........and I tried and tried with my ratchet and 24" pipe............fortunately I have two other ratchets...

    changing chain and spockets

If'n I'd a only thought of that first. This is the way I usually do things, though - 56 years of constant learning opportunities.

    changing chain and spockets

I'm in the middle of swapping to 530 chain. Cut the old chain off with a sawsall, easy......took off the back wheel and old sprocket, easy. Cleaning stuff up (a little) is nasty........ My problem.......I cannot turn the nut on the front sprocket. I bend back the little tab, I've tried an...

Added a Emgo cafe fairing then tried to be a smart ass$%^$^&$^$^&$

No. I have a WC fairing and have had other ? fairings in the past. A good one will keep the windblast off your torso so you don?t have to pull yourself forward against the wind. You can just relax your arms, which makes all the difference for fatigue. Plus, I f***in? hate full frame-mount...

Added a Emgo cafe fairing then tried to be a smart ass$%^$^&$^$^&$

I had that same fairing on an XS750 - looked about like your bike. Worked great, but I never went the speeds I do on the 1100.

Okay, these two lines are just about as funny as it gets......great imagery..........jelly in my pockets??? :) :)

    GS1100E Cafe fairing installation

I actually don't know who made my WC fairing, because I got it in the salvage barn of a local speed shop. It was hanging on the wall for years, never installed. I gave him $20 then bought the windscreen from Gustaffsen. The fairing was made for a 7" light, but the "tunnel" for the light...

    Tourmaster soft saddle bags anyone?

I?ve got the whole set of Tourmaster Cortech luggage ? saddlebags, tailbag and tri-bag tankbag. I really can?t tell you anything bad about them. I?ve taken them on a 3,000 mile trip and lots of weekend camping trips. I got a little wear on the edges of the saddlebags when I had them riding a...

    The S is done

That is a beautiful machine. The engine doesn't even look real, it's so pristine. Don't know if I'd dare ride it.

    Twisted crank? '82 GS1100E

I may. Always looking for the easiest approach. She runs sweet, but I'm just curious.

    Twisted crank? '82 GS1100E

So does anyone know the date or number after which they welded the crank?

    Twisted crank? '82 GS1100E

No, I didn't experience it. Just curious. How many people have actually had this problem? I know they welded it for the late ?82s and the ?83s, but was this more an effect of hard thrashing at the dragstrip or do people actually have this happen as matter of course in normal hard beating on...

    GS1100E Cafe fairing installation

I have the same fairing on my ?82. I found mine in a salvage barn for $20. It was an aftermarket that had never been mounted. Bought the screen from Gustaffsen. My mounting hardware was (and still is) sloppy barstock. Bottom is mounted to the screwholes for the reflector on the side of the...

Okay, I'm not certain, but I did grow up in NY, so........based on my experience, Jeff is British, Rob is a New Yorker. Could be wrong, though.

    Z1

Yup, talked to them on Tuesday afternoon, package with chain and sprockets was here on Friday. Now I just need time, but they did their part.

    Z1Enterprises...

My chain has done its 20,000 miles and it?s adjusted well beyond the limits, so I decided to call Jeff at Z1 Enterprises to get what I need to do the 630 to 530 conversion. After one conversation with the guy, I?m somehow convinced that money given to him is money well-spent?..incredibly...

    Another cafe racer........

This whole thread is just beautiful. The bike couldn?t be nicer in anyway I could think of. Wish I had the skills, so I didn?t have to live vicariously through people like you.

    Painted Carbs

Absolutely. To me, it seems the biggest culprit to carbs is not riding the thing. I replaced a float once on this, but otherwise I don't touch the carbs. I just ride it everyday. These carbs are gorgeous, Bruce.

    Dead, something electrical....

I've owned bikes pretty consistently (missing four months after a crash in 1985) for about 40 years. The degree to which I am a "dummy" is actually a little shameful. The past few years, I've gained a lot more mechanical knowledge, but it's still very rudimentary. (I've always had a good...

    Dead, something electrical....

I suck, but this bike never ceases to amaze me. Checked the battery, checked fuses, checked other stuff............it was the point on the negative terminal where the cable meets the little ring-thing. It had electrical tape around it, but had pulled apart. Took it apart, reattached it...
