A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Quick Carb Jet Questions

Are you attached to the pods? Maybe put a factory airbox back on and use factory jets.

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

As I mentioned before, I've cleaned probably 15-20 carbs so far with tap water and dawn. I always immediately blow dry the carb with compressed air followed by a quick shot of carb cleaner through all the passages. So far I've not seen any ill affects, to the carbs or the ultrasonic. It's only...

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

It's worked just fine for me, on multiple occasions. I've pulled carbs off engines that are covered in mud/grease/grass and disassembled and dropped them straight into my ultrasonic cleaner. They came out clean as new. I just use warm water with some dawn dish soap in it. Maybe I'm doing...

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

I've read several reviews that say the cheap ultrasonics don't clean well, yet I've had the exact opposite experience. I'm not an electronics expert, in fact I know very little about the subject so take this with a grain of salt, but I have a theory. I suspect it has something to do with the...

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

The 2.5L does not fully submerge a single carb, let alone a whole bank. It doesn't even fully submerge some smaller lawn mower carbs. Here's an image of one BS carb from my 850 in the cleaner.

    Ultrasonic Cleaner?

I bought the 2.5L unltrasonic cleaner from my local Harbor Freight about a year ago. I have cleaned probably 15-20 carbs in it so far, some weren't too bad but some where really gunked up and clogged. The only cleaning solution I've used is tap water with some dawn dishsoap because it's non...

    Intake boots

The ebay boots are 100% junk. I was given a free set so I installed them to see how long they'd last. They didn't. OEM is the way to go.

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

If Toyota has come up with a reliable and affordable solution that meets their claims, it will definitely be a game changer whether you like EVs or not, that's for certain. As with all things, time will tell.

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

If we're talking strictly consumer demand driven shift to EVs for the masses, they must meet a few requirements for that to happen. They must at minimum have equal range, equal charge time (to that of filling your tank with fuel) and equal initial/operational costs. Otherwise consumers as a...

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

Got to tinker on the 850 a little today. I've been having miss at idle, if you can call it that. I don't know if it's actually a miss, but it causes the engine to gallop a little at idle, somewhat randomly. The exhaust note has a random "putt...putt, putt... putt... putt... putt putt... putt."...

    Perfect, thank you!

    Colortune, is it needed?

Bummer, would have probably been easier to get from you rather than waiting for it to ship from the UK. Mine finally arrived today.

How do YOU jump start an old GS?

Up until a few years ago, my 850 was running the original stator and reg/rec. Bike ran fine, no electrical/charging issues. I went ahead and installed a SH775 as preventative measure.

    Low compression

Indeed it seems based of the GSR collective experience rebuilding an OEM petcock is a roll of the dice. I desperately wanted to keep the OEM style petcock and the only options to do so were to either roll the dice on a chiese ebay petcock, or attempt rebuilding the original. I think it was worth...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Went for a short ride today. On the way home I went by GM's Milford Proving Ground. At the crest of a hill you could see the high speed North South test track over the fence. Pretty neat to see.

    Low compression

Agreed with everything Bwringer said. He gave you a solid place to start. All of those items need to be addressed and sorted before any further diagnostics can be performed, if needed. I'd bet once you get all those items addressed the bike will run well. I only disagree with you Brian on one...

    Colortune, is it needed?

Please forgive me for reviving an old thread, but I just ordered a colortune to work on my 83 850 and I discovered post-purchase that the colortune doesn't work as well for CV carbs. Based on what chuck hahn says above, with CV carbs you're not looking for the blue flame but rather when the...

    Re-Instatement of 83 GSX750 EZ from a 7/11 to a 750 & creating a new 1100

oof... That's rough. Makes me wonder why OP went through the effort to swap engines?

Cheap 750E w/ bad motor? How fast should I run away from it?

Ya, ensure said that in his GSX750 build thread. I've freed up several various rusted stuck engines with an ATF and MMO soak and a breaker bar. They ran great and didn't seem to use much oil afterwards.
