    1980 GS550 Petcock Operation Question

Good morning and welcome to the form, This petcock mainly consist of the diaphragm, a spring, and an o-ring on the portion of the diaphragm that stops the fuel flow. You can probably remove the four screws and clean it up and check that o-ring for proper sealing and the spring for proper...

Trouble reassembling carbs because of Z1 alum fuel pipes

Just did this last week. The o-rings on the tees from Z1 are too thick. I had some from a kit previously ordered from cycle o-rings. There are 12 and they easily slide in the carbs with the o-rings replaced. Make sure the bore is clean and should be leak free. Best of luck!!

Anyone use the universal Mikuni carb mounting flanges on bikebandit for 1982 gs650l?

I have ran them on my bike for 4 years with no issues but a 78 GS1000 has the sync ports in the head. They are made by Mikuni so that is a little better reputation than your average aftermarket source. One concern I had was they do not use o-rings but no problems thus far and the rubber is...

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

It's all back together and time to reinstall. They, where did that guy come from?

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

Used wooden blocks to keep pistons square with the bore and made some ring compressors with a plastic Zaxbys cup and tie wraps. I'm sure any fast food cup will work. Made it super easy and the gasket was never in jeopardy.

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

I secured the gasket to the bottom of the cylinder and fit rubber bands as a safety.

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

Received my new base gasket. Didn't want it to end up like this one. Placed it on some wax paper upside down and coated it with gasket sealant.

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

Thanks for the response. My problem wasn't with keeping the gasket positioned but rather keeping it (the base gasket) damage free during piston installation. Even if no gasket sealant is used, I would still hold the gasket up on the cylinder out of harms way with rubber bands around the base of...

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

The hollow dowels are in place. They were when I tried to fit the cylinders the first time. The mistake was the base gasket was placed on the upper crankcase instead of being secured to the base of the cylinders. I plan to secure it to the cylinder base this time. This will reduce the exposure...

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

Now all I need to know is what color rubber bands to use.. Red, green or beige? Maybe NASA will know since the pen thingy has been solved. It really is a very simple solution, just wish I would have come up with it.

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

There are two ways I was planning on applying adhesive. Lay the gasket upside down on some cardboard and very lightly mist some 3M spray adhesive. The other idea I had was use some of the sealer left over from joining the crankcase halves. (Very lightly applied) Tape is an excellent idea also...

    Glueing base gasket to cylinder

Finally Started doing the rebuild on my GS 1000. Everything was going well until I tried to lower the cylinders onto the crankcase while fitting the Pistons. It was getting late and should have waited until morning. i slightly damaged the base gasket so a new OEM is ordered. I don't want to...

    sleepless nights in carbville

I had a similar condition only to eventually find the tips of the fuel screws were broken and stuck in the tiny holes. Over 1.5 turns is a bunch. Any other mods? Pods or exhaust?

    Age old Carb Question?

The other two are bowl vents. Do not plug them and they must be vented. It is also recommended to leave them off in certain applications like pods and a stage 3 jet kit...

    Bowl vent pipe

Installed the new coils, decided to take a look at the carbs again since the tank was already removed. Discovered that all 4 fuel mixture screws tips were broken inside the carb body. I was able to force them out with access through the slide opening. When I started the bike, it idled really...
