A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Snowbeard, it's important to know exactly how many watts that recycled headlight is pulling. The wattage makes a difference in how the resistance is calculated. Jon

Problem with rear tire removal - 78 gs750

Newrider, I have a 42 or 43 tooth sprocket on my 78 750 and have no problems getting the tire off. You certainly have to remove the chain guard, but as long as the front of the tire is shoved all the way against the swingarm, it should come right off. The axle has to come out though. Make...

    i need help wiring

Nichols750, I have modified my 1978 GS750 headlight switch so I can turn it on and off as I please, however, when I rewired my charging system with an Electrex (Electrosport) R/R, I ran all three stator wires directly to the R/R. I have had my R/R wired this way since the spring of 2003 and my...

    second headlamps and electrical questions...

Snowbeard, I'm assuming that the headlight is around 50W or so. If that's the case, it's pulling 3.1 amps or so. There are more savvy electrical people on the forum, so this suggestion is just a basic solution to your problem. If you need to drop 12V to 6V, you need an inline resistor that...

    1100G clutch basket interchangability

Chef, THanks for the info. The one I was looking at on Ebay has a stright cut gear, so I assume that it won't work. THe seller mentioned it was out of a GS1100, but it must an 84 or 85. -JOn

    1100G clutch basket interchangability

Greetings gang, I'm looking to replace the clutch basket on the 1100G and when I go to alpha sports and click on the part number I get to a number that gets superceded a few times ultimately ending up with 21200-49214. When I look up the clutch for an 1100E the part number ends up being the...

    Petcock hard to turn

Charles, You should not need a rebuild kit unless it's leaking or not giving gas. Pull the retaining bracket off of the petcock (the U-shaped clip that surrounds the selector knob) and put a thin layer of oil on the o-ring that's on the knob's inner shaft. If that doesn't do it, you may need...

Vance & Hines, trouble getting it together

Rock, I had the exact problem with my 78 GS750. I called V&H on the phone and they said it's due to the "quality of thickness of their chrome plating" and that I should just grind down the header side so the muffler would slip on. I was skeptical about taking the angle grinder to my new $300...

    Vacuumm hose

Charles, I have the same vent hose on my 1100G. I'm pretty sure it's just supposed to vent and that it should be tucked away back be the swingarm like all the other hoses (carb/batt/etc.). Jon

    Shim tool

Redman, There should be no difference in the 2-valve motors and how the shim tool presses down the bucket. I used one from a friend who bought his for a 90-something GS500E. I used it on my 78 750 and my 82 1100G. -J

    Designing my own Rectifier/Regulator

Cletus, Don't get down about all of this. You seem like a well-intentioned guy who designed and built a piece of replacement equipment whose original is the bane of the GS's existence. There are a few electrical engineers that float around on this site and provide sage advice, but none (that I...

    Paint for Brake Calipers

It indeed will, but if you don't put a top coat on it, the sun's UV rays will fog it up in less than a year. Then you've got to find a brake fluid-proof top coat. I've used VHT clearcoat on my engine covers after I cleaned them up. It indeed resists petro chemicals. I've never tried the...

    Designing my own Rectifier/Regulator

    Designing my own Rectifier/Regulator

Cletus, Judging from the picture of your protoype, it looks pretty simple. I'm pretty handy with electronics, but I have little background in the area - only what I've read from a few books. I'm confident that I can put this thing together. Putting it together without frying something while...

    Serious Front brake issue help!

When you changed the fork oil, did you remove the forks? If so, are they positioned at the same height? In this case, the calipers would be parallel, but the axle would not be. Just a thought... J
