If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    81GS650L Clutch Cable Pull?

Replaced the clutch cable today with a cable provided by the PO. Assuming it is a Motion Pro cable. PO indicated that he took off the old cable and was going to replace due to cable stretch. Before and after photo shows how much the clutch arm had to be rotated to connect the new cable. Quite a...

81GS650L - Battery Box Negative Wire?

Had to remove the battery box today to allow removal of the intake boots. I have a question on a wire coming off the negative terminal of the battery. Coming off the negative battery cable there is a black wire with a yellow stripe that connects to the battery box mount. Seems to make sense...

    GS650L Float Level/Carbs Cleaned

Thanks for the help in my other threads cleaning various parts of the carburetors and trying to find the proper fitting for the float bowl drain screw for the float level test. Finally completed all four carburetors this weekend. Dipped, o-rings replaced, gaskets replaced, and float tested...

BS32SS Float Fuel Level Gauge Wanted

I went ahead and ordered the ebay version. Save me some trouble of finding all of the components to put one together although the zerk fitting idea probably would have worked pretty easily too if I hadn't already placed this order. Thanks, Dave

BS32SS Float Fuel Level Gauge Wanted

Working on rebuilding the carburetors of my 81 GS650L. I have set the float levels per the spec with calipers, but would like to confirm with an actual measurement of the fuel level. I tried to order the oem fuel level gauge from Bike Bandit, Suzuki part no. 09913-14511, but received a response...

Float Valve and Pilot Jet Replacement Needed?

A quick soak in spray carb cleaner did the trick on the plunger. I am surprised that a few hours in the parts cleaner did not have the same effect. For the pilot jet, I have the wire cleaner set from K&L. http://www.bikebandit.com/k-l-carb-cleaner-kit There are various sizes of wires in the...

Float Valve and Pilot Jet Replacement Needed?

First carburetor rebuild on a 1981 GS650. Have only taken apart and cleaned carburetor #1 so far. Red circle: The float valve plunger does not depress at all. Does it need to be replaced or do something other than dipping? Green circle: The pilot jet has been dipped for almost 3 hours, but the...

GS650 - Needle Jet Plat and Main Jet Removal Tips?

Lisle impact driver with a JIS #2 bit took it off with just a few taps. Wish I didn't waste so much time on other attempts.

GS650 - Needle Jet Plat and Main Jet Removal Tips?

Main Jet is Out Main Jet is Out Rather than run around looking for another screwdriver tonight I filed down my 5/16" screw driver until it fit just right. The main jet is not buggered up as bad as it looked in the original photo. A little bit, but more knocking the varnish off. Still need...

GS650 - Needle Jet Plat and Main Jet Removal Tips?

99% sure that everything else that needs to be removed has been removed. I was following the two BS(CV) tutorials on http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/ Is there a known screwdriver size/make that is best for the main jet?

GS650 - Needle Jet Plat and Main Jet Removal Tips?

The red circle on the photo shows the plate. Part no. 45 on this diagram: http://www.bikebandit.com/1981-suzuki-gs650gl/o/m21423#sch258417. I should have said needle valve plate. I wasn't sure that an impact driver was the appropriate tool for carburetor work.

GS650 - Needle Jet Plat and Main Jet Removal Tips?

BS32SS carburetors. Doing my first carburetor rebuild. Started with carburetor #1 and have everything taken apart except for the screw holding the needle jet plate and the the main jet. I have JIS screwdrivers, but I am afraid I am going to strip the needle jet plate screw and the main jet is...

    81 GS650 Valve Shim Advice

Just to close this out, here are my final numbers after the adjustments: Initially I ordered 4 new shims form Z1 and rearranged 4 existing shims, but it turned out that Exhaust #1 and Intake #4 were tighter than the assumed 0.02mm since I could only measure 0.03mm and above. Both would still...

    81 GS650 Valve Shim Advice

Just did a valve clearance check on my new to me 81 GS650. Here are my results: I am planning to reuse one of the 2.60x shims on intake 2 to have that clearance a little less than 0.10mm. What do you think about cylinder 3? I didn't see any 2.55x shims at Z1 Enterprises. Any other comments...

    81 650L, Where does R/R attach?

Yes, both the igniter and rectifier/regulator are attached to the same plate back to back. The air box was also removed which I have in a parts box and a bag of bolts. Clymers had a small picture of how to remove these parts, but it wasn't super clear. Thanks for the input. Dave

    81 650L, Where does R/R attach?

Trying to put back together a bike that was taken apart by someone else. Noticed tonight that the regulator/rectifier is just laying in there on top of the frame. Where is the supposed to be attached? Thanks, Dave
