A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    1978 GS750E Rich Carb

Hi Andy, could be the petcock diaphragm. Pull off the vacuum line that activates the petcock from carb #3 and apply vacuum. If you have a hand vacuum pump it will easily verify the diaphragm condition. You can also check it yourself if you don't have a pump. Just don't post anything about orally...

    Helmets with speakers and microphones

Kerrfunk, Take a look At Tcom-sc on eBay. I have owned two sets and enjoyed great results. A set of two will cost about $100 and will last 5 hours or more continuous. You can listen to music from a phone through Bluetooth or built in FM receiver. My GF and I ride two up but mostly on different...

    Fork tube tops removal?

One word of caution, only loosen the caps and don't fully remove until the bike is supported with the front wheel suspended. Those caps push against the springs to hold up the front end.

    1979 Carb Jetting

The main probably needs to be closer to 130 or more. The dynajet stage 3 kit for a GS1000 comes with 138 and 142 mains. The stock main was a #95 and the 138 dynajet was perfect with 4 to 1 exhaust and K & N pods. A 138 dynajet is equivalent to a 130 Mikuni. If you are already running 120 and...

    Faulty Dyna S

I had a charging system that was overcharging and damaged a Dana s and a Dana coil over time. Did a voltage test and if I recall, it was 17v. Replaced the defective regulator and no problems since. It's an easy test and might reveal the root cause.

    Sad news...

It is not metal but some sort of plastic. You can actually see light penetrate if in bright sunlight or using a good flashlight.

    Sad news...

Chuck This is the plastic bit I was referring. Enough heat could damage it.

See location of plastic that align the slide on a VM carb.

    Sad news...

Probably just need the #2 carb body. There is a plastic piece that keeps the slide from rotating. You may try to dress it a bit and clean the groove in the slide. Attach a picture of the bore if you get a chance.

    Front engine "swing arm" bolt

Some case guards are threaded on the right side so the long bolt screws into the case guard replacing the nut and allowing the use of the stock bolt.

    GS550 Acting Over-Jetted

I had a similar situation and it turned out to be the petcock. Check the fuel flow and the vacuum line. Just a thought.

    78 Suzuki gs1000 oil change

https://www.theflyingbanana.com/clutchhub.htm Attached is a link that explains a clutch rattle repair that usually is most prominent at idle. My 1000 was horrific but used this link to guide me through a successful repair. APE clutch nut is also advisable if you ever have to remove the clutch...

The actual spec is 3.6 qts oil only 4.0 qts oil and filter 4.4 after overhaul i always change the filter with every oil change so a gallon jug of Rotella 15w-40 is perfect as mentioned. Good to see someone else from coastal Georgia on here. I'm a little further south at the Jekyll island...

    1980 GS750L project, engine questions.

The worst that would happen would be replace the bearing which would likely be the same had I beat it out. Girlfriend wasn't happy when she opened the dishwasher BTW but it worked out Great. Don't forget that o-ring when you reassemble the crankcase halves.. That was my biggest concern...

    1980 GS750L project, engine questions.

Nicky, I just did a full rebuild at the end of last year and left the shift drum bearing in the case. I did not have a hot tank so had to improvise. Just coat with oil as soon as you remove it and work it in. Haven't had any issues. Best of luck..

    1979 Gs1000L

Hi Tyoung and welcome to the forum. When I originally installed a Vance and Hines on my 78 GS1000, the instructions supplied with the new exhaust gave four things to do if keeping the airbox. 1- Leave off air box lid 2- Change main jet from #95 to #120 3- Lower jet needle one clip position from...

Blew out a spark plug. Options?

I successfully used a kit that had a 14mm tap that turned into a cutter and then a larger tap for the insert.(all one tool) It also contained a punch that expanded the top of the insert to lock it in place plus three inserts of different lengths. I used the longest insert. One bit of advice is...
