A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Stator Cover

Well I replaced the stator and went to put the cover back on and this is where I had a problem. Every time I try to replace the cover the magnet grabs the cover and knocks the gasket out off wack. I need to tack the gasket down somehow or maybe get some studs. Getting studs might be an issue...

    Air Forks

Thanks for the 2 tips. I'll have to try them. It's been so long since I have had to be resourceful. I have to start learning to think outside the box again.

    1982 GS1100G Muffler

Thanks for the links. Wish I could use them. I have a 1982 GS1100G. I don't know if they would work. Seems I can find options for earlier bikes. I asked if they had anything for my bike but no joy. Looks like Marving or Delkevic for now.

    Air Forks

What is the best way to get the fork oil level right? I have seen tools to do it with but this is the 1st and I'm pretty sure the last time that I will be doing this. I don't want to spend the money for a tool that I'll never use again. That's the story of my life. I have all kinds of tools that...

Is there a Marving seller here in the States? All I found were Euro sellers.

    Air Forks

Being that it is a Japanese bike I would naturally assume that they were metric. You know what they say about ASSUME. I have no experience with air fittings so I didn't know if they made metric fittings. Why do you ask if I am kidding? I heard to use ATF a long time ago. Due to life and...

    Air Forks

I had thought about piecing something together but didn't know if the caps were metric or not. I also was too lazy to try and get all the pieces rounded up. I was hoping for a kit. I spoke with Progressive and they said that it would be better to go with new springs and no air. What weight oil...

    Air Forks

Seems that I remember many years ago buying a kit that tied both forks together so that you had only one valve to add air. I don't remember who made it. Does anyone know if there is a kit like this still available? TIA.

    Foggy headlight

I used a hemostat and a gun cleaning patch. It made quite the difference! I didn't think that it was that foggy. Since bwringer said not to get any fluids on the reflector I didn't try to get any fluids on it to clean it. It's tempting now. I would but it sure is hard to find a replacement in...

    '82 GS1100G - Adjusting Shocks

I put Progressive front and rear on a CBX and liked the results. I might look into those and Hagons. I just don't know if I am going to keep the bike or not. I do something almost every day that reminds me how old I am. Love the bike but it's heavy.

    '82 GS1100G - Adjusting Shocks

I have the factory shocks on it. I was trying to figure out how to change the settings on them. Seems that I remember there used to be a wrench in the tool kit to adjust them with. There isn't a wrench or the hole to adjust them with. I couldn't find anything in either the owner's or service...

Good idea. I didn't think of that angle. I just took it for granted that I would find it listed in an ad.

    Foggy headlight

I'm dangerous with chopsticks but you gave me an idea. I think I have some hemostats somewhere and I'll give those a shot.

    1982 GS1100G Muffler

My right muffler looks like some mist blew down the length of my muffler and etched it. I have watched eBay for a couple of months and there has been a few pieces of junk. Well there was a NOS piece in Japan but I haven't hit the lottery yet. Is there anyone making reproduction pieces? I know...

    Foggy headlight

My headlight glass lens is foggy on the inside. I seem to remember trying to clean one with alcohol before and it didn't come out well. Has anyone cleaned theirs and what did you use? Any tips? Thanks.

So I gather then that Simple Green and LA's Totally Awesome is safe for aluminum?

    Cleaning oily parts

I used to have a parts cleaning sink available to me at previous jobs. I'm retired now and was wondering what people do to clean oily parts at home. What cleaning fluid do you use? What makes a good sink? How do you dispose of old fluid? Also I remember that either Simple Green or Purple Power...

    Hot Stator Wires

I think you are right Rich. I thought you were responding to me but you weren't. You can check resistance to ground and get 0 ohms. It won't test insulation breakdown because the voltage in your voltmeter isn't high enough.

    Hot Stator Wires

I'm sorry Rich but what are you referring to? My post about checking VAC to ground? If the insulation is good you wouldn't be completing the circuit. Right? I haven't been around motors for a number of years and I'm not as young as I used to be. But I am faster! :smug: P.S. Never mind. I reread...

    Hot Stator Wires

Rick's and Electrosport stators are ~$150 while the Caltric is ~$38. That's either a lot of markup or Caltric is using cheap parts or methods. Glad to hear some have had good results though.
