A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    83 GS1100GK restore / refresh

If you look, you can see 4 holes in the side of the saddlebags from a previous owner. There were LARGE reflectors mounted up at some time, and then they were taken off and misplaced. So to fill the holes, I'm using much smaller reflectors:

Ok..... been a little hectic here recently. I was working a bunch of overtime before Christmas, then was dealing with some health issues. I was trying to work on the GK when I could, but I couldn't find time to update this thread. So here's what I've been up to! New petcock because, surprise...

    GS450 to 500 swap questions

The late GS500 (the F models) have an oil cooler from the factory. There are some other differences between the 450 and 500 engines. The exhaust ports are the obvious ones, but the shifter is different too. There is no transmission gear indicator wiring on the 500....... I think the carb...

    GS1000 fuel petcock

Z1 Enterprise has a good bit of Pingel parts too BTW. If you end up getting rid of the stock petcock, you'll also need to block off the vacuum port on the carbs.

Hello (again)! Couple bikes from western PA....

Thanks gentlemen! I am a little ways away from Johnstown, but I have been thru there quite a few times. And Ellwood City is an odd little town..... most people have never heard of it. If they know the area, I say I'm south of New Castle. If not, I'm northwest of Pittsburgh. I think the only...

    GS450 E or S gas tank on an L or T model?

It depends on how well you want it to fit! I never had a T or L model, but I do know the frames are basically identical between all the models for any given year. So will the E/S tank fit on the frame? Really good chance, yes. But will it fit with plastic side covers or seat? Probably not so...

    Solution for cracked plastics?

Tons of good info and ideas - big thanks to everyone. I ended up getting the plastic welding kit from Harbor Freight, and used the metal mesh. Seems to be working out really well so far - but time will tell. To fill in the smaller holes / cracks, I'll be using the ABS slurry. I also brought...

    Solution for cracked plastics?

So the factory plastic saddlebag for my GK has been thru some trauma..... I am looking for the best solutions to make this sturdy, and not totally hideous. On the corner, the crack is spread out and even opened up a little so the gap would need filled in. Also, one of the bottom mounting holes...

    83 GS1100GK restore / refresh

Thanks Redman! I've checked out your GK many times since stumbling upon this one..... You're correct about the mirrors - and they are not in a box somewhere stashed in my garage. I have some standard handlebar mirrors I can use to get me on the road, but I'd like to run fairing mounted mirrors...

    83 GS1100GK restore / refresh

Thanks gentlemen! Ed, that part of your signature? I said that just the other day when my son and I were doing the valve shims. There was one shim (#4, intake) that didn't need to come out, but I told him it was coming out to get measured at least. He asked why, and I said "to measure is to...

    83 GS1100GK restore / refresh

For some odd reason, the rear caliper had 99% of the paint stripped off of it. I have a receipt it was rebuilt, but no idea why the paint was stripped.....

    83 GS1100GK restore / refresh

While waiting for some parts, I bought some weather stripping and sealed up the airbox. Also cleaned and oiled the K&N filter.

    BS34 to BS34SS Swap

Why didn't the carbs fit? I thought the intake port spacing was very similar, so the GS450 mounting boots would help to get the carbs mounted up.
