DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    1980 gs550e - fuel tap / tank noise

No, when there is vacuum then the valve opens, when there is no vacuum the valve closes, ie one cycle per engine on and engine off. Have you tried opening the fuel cap to see if the clanking goes away?

    1980 gs550e - fuel tap / tank noise

The diaphragm isn't designed to flap back and forth like that it will knacker out in no time. you must find out why you're losing vacuum in cycles.

    1980 gs550e - fuel tap / tank noise

I've not heard of taps causing noise and wonder if the diaphragm 'panting' back and forth wasn't the problem that started back on your last trip. Restricting down the vac hole orifice will control that, are the vac pipes in the right place on the carbs? What about a Pingle? just a straight non...

Try putting the lever to prime position and blocking the vac pipe?

    78 GS1000 carb refitting

WD40 is bad for rubbers and plastics, if lube is required then silicone grease or Vaseline, I think KY in American. I found that lining the carbs into the stubs at an angle from underneath and rolling them upwards does the job very well. the air box needs to be unbolted.

    1982 gs1000s katana

There were 2915 SZ Katana 1000 SZs' produced all except the US versions had VM32 slide carbs, 130 of these were imported to UK I don't know how many the States had. Nearly half of them went to Australia an NZ. It seems that there are more 1000cc versions come up for sale than the 1100s'. A fast...

    78 ts 125 wont start

What are the main bearings like? Crank shaft seals? Take the points cover off and gearbox oil filler and sniff for petrol, see if there is any play in the bearing up and down. Base gasket in good condition? If the engine is severely flooded it won't start. Fuel off, plug out, 1st gear full open...

Exhaust bolt hole not only stripped, but almost completely destroyed by PO

Exactly, Just one thing else, if you go big enough with the drill diameter you will break through the actual exhaust port where the pipe slides in that will allow the welder to run a bead and make the plug fit even firmer, then clean it up with a die grinder. Just to ask, what are the timeserts...

Exhaust bolt hole not only stripped, but almost completely destroyed by PO

I had a similar thing last year, one of the ex bolt holes had been mashed up from when I'd got the bike and I had the hole filled up with weld and retapped, it worked ok till I changed the pipes for the big UK show and the weld just pulled out. It was never nice and I've deleted the photos I...

    Did something stupid...

Should be ok, put the bike in 4th or 5th and turn the back wheel by hand should do all you need without making a mess with expelled excess. Though with all the oil about it's probably a good idea to take the plugs out and spin the crank, again by hand, before next start up.

Is this the real thing (SH775)?

Solder also wicks up the strands and makes the wire inflexible and can cause it to break under the insulation, the hotter the joint the further it will flow.

Sand in engine block; what should I do?

This and maybe flush with paraffin, kerosene or diesel being aware that you could be flushing sand into the bearings.

1980 Wes Cooley in the garage....finally!

Your bike is a GS100ST, ST s' came with ordinary E type clocks behind the fairing, looking on Alpha sports Suzuki spares shows the cockpit type that we all know come on the SN. Seems the ST came with both types, maybe just a market area thing. This from Alpha Sports web page. And this from...

This is the ST model, they came originally with the ordinary E' type clocks. So possibly the whole cockpit parts have been replaced?
