A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Was that because of the roads? I found Holland the most stressful driving in any country that I've driven in because of their bikes/bike path system and the random direction that they can run into you from.

doing the suggestion that wally made is a slight variation of what we discussed earlier, I would do that and worry about an in line tap once you are running, (saves you peddling about) Give these people a ring, they are close to Amsterdam. http://www.cmsnl.com/about/company/location/

you will know if the HG was leaking, from sound or mess. maybe vlvs weren't spot on or chipped a vlv who knows? compression test because that's all that's left.

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

ok, from what you say there it's compression. do you block the vacuum tube when you run it with the tank off, with a dry new fresh known working plug?
  8. T

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

disconnect it from the tank, do the unflood procedure I explained and swap plugs, see what happens, remember you have only a carbful to accomplish this, if you cant then be prepared to fill the carbs down the tube without using the tank. TBH I don't think this is it, but it's cheap and easy. I...

No prime position? Then don't cut the pipe!
  10. T

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

that is not a problem in itself, But just to eliminate,...You need to block off that pipe, cut it in half and poke a 6mm screw in the two open ends, or cut it short enough to get a screw in to block it off tank end, and then block the piece leading down to the carb. (Leaves you with an option...

    on the vacuum tube?

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

As an aside, when you check this in the field, unplug the carb end and suck, if you get fuel in yr mouth it's bad, squinting down the pipe from the other end means nothing as it's an open hole
  13. T

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

Ok, now you have eliminated ignition. That's it and it's conclusive! The engine runs on the other cylinders so it's not a timing issue. the plug is wet, so you have fuel, You know it's not plug because you have swapped/put new. Check th compression in the way I explained

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

Ok, take the cap off, so that the wire is bare, hold the wire about 4mm off the plug top and start the engine, you will see the spark.

Not the carb diaphragm, the one in the fuel tap
  16. T

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

Compression tests can be inconclusive if not done in the correct sequence, hot engine, full open throttle, Crank over, (best pull all the plugs out to maximise efficiency of speed and battery conservation) To get a better idea of where the leak might be: a couple of squirts of oil down t plug...

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

You say you have swapped 2 with three and there was no difference in running, so that eliminates spark problem. that leaves compression, very small chance of fuel but that is also very unlikely in view of your previous comments.

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

Habsdoc is right, vacuum line can get fuel if the diaphragm is leaky
  19. T

    1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

plug 2 is wet, you got spark. again, it only leaves compression. How did you/the guy check your compression?
