I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Bad starter?

Well, I read 12.2 V at the starter terminal when I push the starter button. Not a peep from the starter. Is it possible to pull the starter without taking the stator cover off? Without taking the cylinders off?

    Bad starter?

82 GS550L: A few days ago I tried to start the bike and eventually after many cranks it slowed down and stopped. I figured I drained the battery so I put the battery on a charger overnight and tried it again. This time it cranked 2-3 times and then stopped. I figured the battery must not be...

    Series Regulator Source SH775

Not possible because I'm just recording the numbers but maybe it's luck or weather.

    Series Regulator Source SH775

I went with an SH775 for the GS550L a few weeks ago. I swapped stator at the same time with a Caltric. The previous setup was a El Cheapo Ebay stator and a Honda 5-wire RR. The Honda RR seemed to work ok but the stator blew out after 2k miles. Not sure if the RR was the cause but anyway... So...

    GS Stator

FYI According to this site: http://www.vstromhellasforum.com/t29828-topic Suzuki has switched to using a series RR in the 2014 Vstrom DL1000.

    GS Stator

Without a controlled experiment on a bench setup running at set speeds with a fixed load and a thermometer measuring precisely, we only have a guess as to what's going on.

    1980 GS850 top end rebuild

That happened to me the first time I tore down the top end. I don't think the guides provide any structural support. There are very few lateral forces applied to the head. When it happened to me I tore it down again and replaced both gaskets. You can try running it. I suspect if anything moves...

[GS 650 bottom end on gs 550 base] need I absolutely machining the base to fit jugs?

It appears the only difference between the two blocks is the 6mm of larger bore on the 650. (62mm vs 58mm) So it sounds like its doable so long as the stud pattern and location of the oil channels line up. Are the valve sizes the same? Will you get enough flow through the 550 head? I recall...

What size is this plug bolt on the 1982 GS550?

Hi folks, I have a TTO heat temp digital meter which I want to covert to an oil temp meter. TTO sells an oil temp sensor and a bunch of adapters so you can install the sensor in most threaded holes. I was thinking the oil channel which feeds the head would be a good place to install the sensor...

    86 gs550 wet plugs

Sounds like a fuel level problem. Float needle valve is leaking or float level is set too high. I don't know too much about the 86 bikes but there has to be a spec of fuel level and procedure to measure and adjust it.

I am asking your opinion - so please share your thoughts --

It's all up to what you want. But if it was my bike I'd ride it like it is.

    Fuel starvation?

You might want to try attaching something like this and watching the fuel level while the bike is running: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mikuni-Carb-Float-Level-Tool-Suzuki-GS550-650-850-/271906566359?hash=item3f4ee4f0d7:g:5WsAAOxyf1dTKD80&vxp=mtr

    Fuel starvation?

This sounds like a idle circuit mixture problem. It could be due to wrong setting of the idle fine tune adjustment screws or fuel level. It could also be that the carbs are not holding idle well due to being out of sync. Do you notice the problem getting better/worse as the bike warms up? How...

Where to start, and a few general questions

The GS550 motor makes peak torque at 7500 RPM and max hp at 9000 RPM. It's not a "cruiser" motor. The 5000 RPM at 50 mph is geared for the motor. Once its properly tuned this motor is very smooth at those speeds and you don't feel much vibration. Also mpg seems to be fine at 6000-7000 RPM which...

I'm thinking about fabricating a drivers backrest

You don't need a backrest. These bikes are designed to be ridden with either a slight forward or fully upright stance (the sit-up and beg stance). A backrest would only be there to hit you when you try to get on/off.

Pilot jets - black, round, rubber, plug AGAIN ???

Those plugs are held up by a riser in the bowl which presses them up into the tube. They don't need to fit perfect because they will get squished into place when you fasten the bowl.

Mixture screws stopped working? Idles best with screws all the way in?

Thanks for documenting the whole process. Strange that the floats would change shape like that. Maybe something to do with temperature swings when the bike was stored and the age of the floats.
