A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Well this sucks

Well, I pulled it apart again, found the wire hold down was bent up a touch and the rotor was making light contact. Fixed that & still no voltage help. . Checked all three stator wires and they all had the same good voltage to the regulator. Saw good voltage from the hot wire on the stator, but...

    Well this sucks

My motorcycle guru is Ron from R&K cycles in Illinois. He pretty much knows everything. His advise is to solder all connections involved as crimping is often just not good enough. Also, I used a gasket maker as a new gasket was 60 miles away, and it's a possibility that there is not enough...

    Well this sucks

GS850. Ran the last 4 years with 13.4-13.8 volts max with good grounds and the wiring cleaned up. Finally quit on me. I put on a genuine SH775 and a new stator, double grounds and all new wires. All I get so far is 13.2 with a spike all the way to 13.4 when I rev it up. To top it off, I can hear...

    Gel Battery

Any crappy little battery will suffice if you have and are planning to use a kick starter. You need very little amperage for that

I do. I bought it last winter in anticipation of this.

    Who's the man

I rewired and got rid of that odd leg loop when I got the bike some 4 or 5 years ago. I picked up 1-1/2 volts, from battery reading only to 13.4 max. It still kept the battery up for years, but it suddenly went South. It's plenty old enough to need the upgrades, no sense in putting it off any...

    Who's the man

That rewires or sells rewound stators? Mine has been at 13.4 volts max for 4 years, and seems to have finally given it up. I have a 1981 850G. I located and bought a genuine SH775 last year, haven't installed it yet. Might as well get both.

Who knew it would be so difficult

Started looking in earnest for a mid-sized bike for my grandson today. I figured something older in decent shape. Anything I see that I like is 1000 miles away, of course. Everybody else wants 1000-1500 bucks for their 40 year old junk that has problems. Who buys a bike that's 30 years old, sat...

Flat car tire on a bike?

There is a certain tire that is commonly used because it has a more rounded profile. A run thru the Goldwing forums would find it I think.

I did the carbs on a 550, so close that book. Easiest is my 850G.

Amazing how good this GS1100E is

"This is all somewhat arguable, but Honda in particular developed a reputation for reliable machines you could trust to finish a trip, and Suzuki was a close second in reliability, with better power and handling. Kawasaki was arguably in third place, and Yamaha a distant fourth." I would...

You ready to park your GS?

Oh, what a bunch of drama queens. I've run nothing but ethanol in everything for decades without issue. Clear back to my 82 GS1100 in the 80's, to my current GS850, and my 84 Cal2 and 84 650C Guzzis. Throw in 2 Viragos, a Kaw 440 twin, a Yamaha 550 Maxim, and more. Hasn't hurt a darn thing. I...

    Throttle lock/ cruise control

I wouldn't give a nickel for another cramp buster. The NEP is a gem, set the tension to suit yourself. I'm an old carpal tunnel syndrome survivor, so I tried everything that wasn't a fortune. I'm down to only using the NEP.

    Carb install 1983 GS1100

I've heard you can shove the rubbers back into the airbox a ways and then tender them back out after the carbs are installed? Anybody try that?

    Carb install 1983 GS1100

Is there a preferred method to get it together with that god-awful lack of clearance everywhere? I know about pliable, boots, warming, etc. It was a bear to get them off. Can the engine be tilted slightly forward or anything? 1/4 inch would certainly help......

    Gs1150es

I've done this before on purpose. Put dual element lights on the rear and tie the two elements together. Makes for some very good turn signals.
