A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    1983 GS 1100 E fuel capacity

I'm pretty sure the US & Canadian versions are the same, so the total fuel capacity is 5.8 gallons or just a shade under 22 liters.

If there's any one heated article of clothing to buy...

I would go with either a vest or jacket liner, preferably a battery powered one. The best thing you can do for your hands is to use some type of fairing or handguards to get the direct wind blast off of them. If you need a little extra help to keep your hands warm, buy some of the chemical hand...

Do you run without a chain guard?

I have thought about this on & off over the years, and I think it would be great. I would basically have a chain guard that fully covers the chain & sprocket from where it leaves the engine case. It doesn't need to be sealed & the chain doesn't need to be in an oil bath. It would basically be a...

    ZRX 1200 question...

I think the reason the ZRX doesn't hold it's value as well as some of the other standards of the same era is its' retro styling. While the retro styling attacts a certain group of riders, it is a turn-off for many others. The ones who want the retro look in a modern motorcycle for the most part...

    Fuel Tank sources?

I would check with salvage yards, on eBay, and at GSTwins.com for a used one. Here's a link. http://www.gstwins.com/gsboard/

WD40 uses (If been posted before sorry)

The additives that give WD-40 the water displacing properties actually remove the water by pulling it into solution. If you leave it be without using any additional rust protection, they will continue to absorb water out of the atmosphere until there is enough water present to come bac out of...

    Garmin nuvi problem on bike

I have a similar one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001M09L20/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 I'm actually on my third, I had two wired up last year, one for the GPS, and one for my MP3 player. There an extra switched lead in the headlight bucket that I used for one, and the other I hooked up...

    1982 GS1100E 530 chain conversion

Your mechanic friend is right in that the ratios will remain the same if you go with sprockets having the same number of teeth, but the spacing between the teeth is less on a 530 chain than on a 630 chain. The 5 & the 6 refer to the number of eighths of an inch between center on the chain, and...

    Spring Rates for Progressive Shocks

The time is here for me to order new rear shocks for my 79 GS750E. I'm going to go with the Progressive shocks from Z1, but I'm not sure which spring rates would be best. I need the bike to be comfortable for two up riding, with a combined rider/passenger weight of ~450 lbs. I'm assuming my best...

    Recommend me some handlebars

I've switched to bar end mirrors to avoid looking at my elbows. another option would be to try some mirror extenders. http://www.amazon.com/10mm-Motorcycle-Mirror-Riser-Extender/dp/B003VBZU7I/ref=pd_sbs_auto1

what did you wrench on today??

Wednesday night I replaced the clutch cable. I have Daytona/Superbike bars on so the stock cable is really too long. Motion Pro wants about $35 a cable for custom length cables, along with a two week wait, which I didn't really want to do unless I had to. I tried the cable for the GS700 E/ES...

Ohio to Seattle - if you could?

I'd jump at the chance if the opportunity came up. I wouldn't take interstates any more than absolutely necessary once I got past the Mississippi. If I'm trying to make time on the bike, I try to maintain a 50 mph average including stops. If you're on the road for 8-12 hours that gives you...

    Custom windshield build.

I know that plexiglass is easier to work with, but polycarbonates are more durable; they have better flexibility and impact resistance than plexiglass.

    Custom windshield build.

I don't think that you'll be able to bond plexiglass well enough to withstand the force of wind buffeting at speed. If you find an adhesive that will do the job, it isn't going to be clear. If you plan on using the bonded pieces to make a form so you can shape your final piece, that will...

    Removing this ugly windjammer

I had a Windjammer on my 78 GS750, and I didn't need to remove the ears or the headlight bucket to install it. On my 77 Goldwing, I had to remove the bucket, but kept the headlight ears and just turned them in for clearance. Check to see if you already have the ears still on the forks, since...

The vegetable oil is a good idea. another option would be mineral spirits. Lighter fluid is pretty much the same as naphtha, and should work OK.

    tires for 450

I've been running the Avon Roadriders for a couple of years now, first on a GS750, and now on my GS500. Just replaced the front tire after getting 26500 miles on the last one.

Motorcycle hill climbs Monson,Ma. this sunday

I know a couple of guys who went there in 2008. They said if you wanted to be safe on the way out, either leave before they're done, or plan on staying until they kick you out. Anything else, and you'll be playing dodge the drunks.

If you can't get the idle over 1000 rpm, I would start looking at carb issues.

    Carb Circuits?

Smoothbores would be a better choice for roadracing, because of the quicker response. For dragracing, if your revs drop to where you are off the main jets, you've probably lost already.
