A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Mid Ohio AMA Vintage Motorcyle Days

I haven't been able to make it there for a couple of years now, but it is one of the coolest events for anyone who likes old bikes. Years ago I got to do some laps at Mid Ohio when Kawasaki rented the track for a day. I got three laps each on the Concours, the 1200 Voyager, and a ZX-10. That was...

    Valve shim calculator

Valves are always checked cold. There's no way to determine how much thermal expansion has taken place if the engine is warm, so it's best to do after the bike has been sitting overnight.

    Cramming for my electrics final

Pick up some dielectric grease, and use it when reassembling all connections after cleaning.

What would you do with this bike?

It's obviously modified too much to take back to stock, or even close. I'd think about making a streetfighter out of it. Some type of solo seat, drag bars, maybe lose the rear fender. Definitely do something about that exhaust hanger.

    Rookie Cafe' with questions

I see a bunch of these bundled together on fleabay every so often. It looks like it could be a good deal if you can avoid a bidding war.

    77 gs 750 to gs1100e

The rear mounts on the tank are different. Not sure how easy it would be to fabricate and adaptor, assuming everything fits.

    Starter Clutch

Don't pay big bucks for the special tool. All you need is a long bolt that fits the center hole. Put a large washer and a weight on the bolt and screw it in. Use the weight like a slide hammer to pull the rotor. You should be able to get the hardware you need from Lowes or Home Despot for less...

    Using Seafoam

Adding something like SeaFoam or kerosene to the crankcase before an oil change is an idea that goes back to the days before oil with detergent additives. You would put some in, run the engine for 10-15 seconds max to loosen up built-up crud, and then flush it out with the old oil. With modern...

    wiseco 750 pistons

I can't say for sure, but the wrist pins for the 1979 GS750 and GS850 have the same part number, so I would guess that yes they are compatible.

    Advice on screens

I would keep the old screen, even though it's scatched up, to cut down for use in warmer weather. I prefer to have my helmet fully in the wind rather than partially. There's less buffeting from the wind that way. I don't like looking through the windshield in normal use, and most stock height...

Bikes dies after few miles at highway speeds...

My first guess would be the vacuum diaphragm in the petcock is bad, and doesn't allow enough gas flow to the carbs. Try running the bike on prime, and if the problem goes away, replace the petcock.

Battery buried deep - how to remove?

I always loosen the rear master cylinder from the frame, too. I also just removed the four bolts from the frame bracket, and left it attached to the tank. It is a PITA, but as mentioned, once you do it a couple of times, it's only a 10 minute job.

Are these any good for carb sync/balancing ?

If you look in the picture on the link, you can see 4 small white plastic pieces. I believe these are restricters, just put them inline on each hose and turn till the gauge bounce stops.

    1983 gs1100ed carbs specs

They probably are some differences between the Canadian and US versions. I just double -checked for typos, and what I posted is straight out of the shop manual. Notice that the Canadians can be trusted to adjust their pilot screws, where Americans get them pre-set from the factory.

    Steering Head Race removal tool

I went to the Park Tools website to see what I could find about the material the tool is made from. The company makes bicycle tools, and Bikebandit only carries the one tool as far as I could tell. The company claims the tool is made from "Strong, heat treated alloy steel with a nickel finish."...

    Steering Head Race removal tool

I came across this about a week after doing the steering head bearings on my GS750. I used a combination of the bolt/dremel/cussing method to remove mine. http://www.bikebandit.com/product/1869

    What is sea foam?

I prefer Sta-bil for storage, but Seafoam will do. I use Seafoam as a carb cleaner added to the gas 2-3 times a year. If used in a high enough concentration (about 25-30%) it will smoke like a chimney, and really stink. I've used it that way to clean out the carbs on a GoldWing that were really...

Where to mount a Cigarette Lighter Outlet

Go with Powerlet connectors. They are available at Whitehorse Press and probably some other outlets. I added a cigarette lighter plug to my bike to power a small 12v compressor, and placed it under the seat. There's usually enough room to lay one there without interfering with anything. I plan...
