please take notes and pictures if you do this. There are plenty of others that will want to see your work and gain expirience from this. I have had the 82 850 and I have the 82 1100G (8v). I believe the exhaust is different as well. You will like the extra horses. You might not enjoy...

    Shinko tires

I have a Shinko 712 on my 1100G right now and really like the tire. Nicer than the Chen Shing Hi Max and the Marquius. More tread depth and looks and feels like a much better made tire. I only have 500 miles or so on it so I can't comment on the longevity, yet.

Shimming CV carb needles ? never fails to amaze?

Kudo's to you and your bike Ed. I too, shim the needles on every CV carb I encounter and the results never cease to amaze. I buy nylon washers at the local hardware. I belive they are #4 size metric. It takes 3 of those to make up the thickness of the stock spacer. I usually put two on the...

    Cracklist Babies

When reading this it makes me think of the first motorized 2 wheel vehicle I ever purchased. This was responsible for getting me into motorcycling and eventually my GS habit. 1994 50cc Yamaha Razz....read Honda Elite scooter. I saw the ad for it on CL and it was the 2 line variety. Listed...

Clutch won't completely disengage the gears...

I am dealing with the same problem with my 1100G. Throw in neutral is almost impossible to find with the bike running. Heres where I started: Adjusted the clutch at the bars and on the engine side of the cable. I opened the clutch cover and pulled the steel and fiber plates and made sure...

So looks like we're back to square one. I appreciate the offer of the springs but I have some and I believe that what is in there is stock. I will try to take some pictures and let everyone have a look. Maybe something will catch someones eye as to what the problem might be.

    9 plate clutch, what the?

Cable is new and lubed. Yes it moves very nicely with out being hooked up. I have a set of Barnet Springs and when you compare the two the Barnet are much harder to compress. These also have a little red paint on them, just like what came out of my 850. The Barnet have no paint whatso ever...

    9 plate clutch, what the?

So 9 is stock on an 1100G? Not saying you guys are wrong but i looked at the parts diagram at Bike Bandit and it shows 8 fiber plates??????? The 82 1100E shows the 9 plates. If thats the case does anyone have any ideas as to why its dragging and why the clutch effort is so high? My 850 was...

Bike feels a little squirrelly - diff. fork oil levels?

Tighten the head bearings. With a jack put the front wheel in the air enough that you can watch it go from side to side with your hands off the hadlebars. If it can hit either stop from the middle by just letting go they are too loose. My 850 did this and was behaving the way you described...

1100G Buzziness Just me and what to do.

This thread got a little buggered up with the tequila references. Good times. I somewhat fixed the problem and thought soemone might be interested. As someone suggested, I checked all the motor mounts for tightness. Everything was okay except for where the case guards bolted on to the...

To all who replied, I thank you very much. The R/R was wired completely wrong. I reconnected everything as you specified and now I have a nicely charging bike that tops out at about 14.5 volts and never goes any higher. No more battery boiling either. Heres the kicker that just makes me...

    wider tire up front???

I've ridden several GS models that had 110-90-19 on the front instead of the 100-90s and they wouldn't corner worth a turd. Starting into a turn you really had to muscle the front end to get into a corner. I am not the level of rider that some are here, but that was very noticable. I have...

    R/r wiring help please

1982 GS1100G I went to check the battery electro levels as part of soem PM and found them to be very low. Filled the battery and then went to check the charging system to find out if there was a problem there. Idle voltage was about 14.5 and it shot up to about 17.5 at 3000 rpm. Checked the...
