    Front suspension expiriment results

I have read about the many people who have switched to Progressive springs on the 850. I thought I would so a little expiriment on my bike before I took the plunge. I have the original fork springs in my 82 850. I am also currently using a Vetter Windjammer fairing on the bike, about 20...

    102,586.6 miles

What does she ride like after 100,000? What have you done to the motor if anything? I ask because in reading some of your posts and replies I gather you ride the **** out of your bike and also gather you have no problem spending time above the 6000 mark on tach. Do tell us what the secret is...

    GS1100ES restoration opinions

Take a metric socket set. pull the sparkplugs out and remove the cover from the ignition (right) side. Put a socket on the shaft and gently turn. You will be able to turn the motor easily and if you bring a flashlight you will be able to shine it into the plug holes and watch the valve...

    1 dry bowl

This problem rears it ugly head once in awhile in this form and also in the form of a puddle of gas under the bike after a ride. Unless the tube that supplies fuel to all four carbs is clogged, the stuck needle is the problem. I just pulled apart a set of carbs and the float needle seats were...

    Raising Carb Needles

this whole process can be done with the carbs stillon the bike. I agree that they are #4 washers. I used nylon from the local hardware store. Another tip was to use a pair of cheap harbor frieght fine blade needle nose pliers to grasp the two circles on the clip. I had to grind the very tip...

    Oil-Flooded Stator?

I just pulled the stator cover off a 850L that is a project bike of mine and had the same problem. The oil smelled like old gas and the bike labored when you hit the starter. The carb floats had stuck and over time it filled the crankcase with gas. The extra just came gushing out because...

1982 850G with Vetter Quicksilver fairing

Hello, I and some fellow GS'ers have been toying with using a Vetter Quicksilver on an 850G. Couldn't find a picture anywhere to give me an idea as to what it would look like. I purchased the Quicksilver fairing with some Hard luggage that didn't work out. I ended up selling the fairing to...

    Question For Nessism

Why can't you people see the clear problem here, It's the Fetzer valves that need adjusting, just remember the 3&1 oil, steel ball bearings and the gauze. And clean the muck off of the side windows, it will help a whole lot. If you have any questions ask for Fletch.

    Cheng Shin Marquis rear tire

Okay, got to ask, from that comment... what do you have it on and how much are you carving corners? Are we talking wet or dry? I'm not saying you are right or wrong just wondering why we are so far apart on the tire. What do you run now and feel is superior? I just threw my .02 in for...

    Cheng Shin Marquis rear tire

I purchased a Cherng Shin Marquis 130-90-17 for the rear of my GS850G and thought I would give a little review. I know everyone here really likes the Hi Max tire and gives it high ratings. I had the option to buy that tire as well but chose this one because I was new to the bike and had a...

Best Way to Clean the Engine...

I have the same tan "staining" on an engine right now. It is on the cooling fins on #1 cyl. I have tried everything short of sandpaper to get it off. Looks like a baked on oil stain. Any thoughts from the experts?

    Brake pedal locked up.

I was just messing with the same thing on a GS1000L. The pedal was fine, the M/C piston was frozen. I put clean fluid in the M/C and let it sit for a couple of days. It broke free and then I tore everything down and cleaned it well. If all that is going on be prepared for a rear caliper...

    1981 GS650G-387 Miles-Need Valves Adjusted?

Who cares if its dirty, we can see through the dirt, just post some pic! You are doing fine with this and just keep us posted. One thing that will help the bike in so many ways is just taking it for a long ride. It seems to me that bringing everything up to temperature and making parts do...

Stator cover removal, how much oil loss?

I want to remove the stator cover on a GS1000L for polishing. Does the stator live in a oil bath or will I just lose a little as I pull the cover off? Is there anything I need to know about pulling this that will make it easier to do? Sorry for the noob question but I've never pulled one of...

    Rebuilding the '80 Wes Cooley

I replaced the rubber seal first thinking that would take care of the leak. Mine had a couple of small tears in it. That did nothing but make me use a few choice words. The leak was coming from underneath the plate somehow. The hole's lip was not true from the PO trying to force the sending unit...

    Rebuilding the '80 Wes Cooley

screw the bolts into the threaded holes. That way whe the epoxy is poured around them, it will harden perfectly around them and seal any leaks from underneath the plate holding the sending unit. The epoxy should come up to within a milimeter of the lipped hole in the tank. The width of the...

    Anybody ever use this stuff?

I haven't used them on my GS but I did use them on a couple of 150CC scooters though. I did notice a difference in the ride when using them. I installed them throught the valve stem with the tire on the bike. Putting them in this way took a little time but I would say the results are worth it...
