All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    1982 GS450TX Brakes shoes don't fit Volar????

    EBC Application guide shows: GS450TXZ = 609 (180x28mm) GS450TZ = 606 (160X30mm) You need EBC 609. EDIT: If Volar has a VBS609, that's probably what you need.

    1982 GS450TX Brakes shoes don't fit Volar????

Look at the Suzuki parts fiche http://partsfish.com/oemparts/#/c/suzuki_motorcycle_1982/parts (REAR WHEEL) GS450TZ - Brake Shoe: 64400-11860 GS450TXZ - Brake Shoe: 64400-11870 There appears to be a difference (mag wheel has different drum size than wire wheel)?

    G&S Suzuki. Best by far.

I initially ordered parts from G&S...took way too long (in my case over a month) to get the parts. I use partsfish.com, even special order parts (which most of them are) only take a couple weeks--if that.

    1982 GS450 Exhaust??

So, looks like 83 carbs are completely different: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?p=1487659&highlight=gs450+dynojet#post1487659 Looks like rapidray may be able to provide adjustable tapered needles...that would be something to look into... Also found this...

    1982 GS450 Exhaust??

The kit explains most of this, and includes the drill bits/washers...but effectively you drill the slide for a snappier response (allows more air for quicker return on the vacuum diaphragms that raise the needles). You use a smaller washer than the stock washer to raise the needle for a richer...

    1982 GS450 Exhaust??

I have K&N pods and the slash cut mufflers are pretty much straight pipes. I purchased the Sigma6 jet kit off eBay Spaced the needle, drilled the slide holes, upped the main jets (I think 122.5), and finally I had to up my pilot jets (20).

    1982 GS450 Exhaust??

No issue at all...I have a similar setup. I assume you will be jetting the carbs?

    1982 GS450TX Chain Selection

JT Sprockets suggests 104 links: http://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue/model/5708 The 102 links is for a 450L (smaller rear sprocket). It would be good to count, make sure previous owner didn't switch gears. RK is good.

Are jets marked with their sizes?

You really don't need to remove the motor to pull/install the air box...just remove the carbs/intake boots and finagle it out of there.

Are jets marked with their sizes?

Remove the engine...whhhhaaatt? Yes, not very hard to remove the air box on the 450. I run pods on mine, took a while to get it tuned, but happy with the results (running short pipes as well...LOUD).

GS650GL Recessed Fork Caps - How to Remove?

I'm sure it's doable with a helper...it doesn't require too much force...just a constant force while picking the clip out.

GS650GL Recessed Fork Caps - How to Remove?

You need to press the cap down in order to reveal the wire ring....I found it easiest to use a shop press...unless you have a strong third hand. This is what the ring looks like:
